Description
I couldn't think of a better title.... These are some statues that are outside my dorm. We had a snow storm one day where the wind was really bad and blowing the snow in all one direction. As a result, all the buildings, cars and statues had snow on only one side. I thought it looked cool.~
My friends know that I am a stalwart proponent of digital cameras. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of using light sensitive paper in the darkroom, but I never really got the hang of film; for one thing, I always manage to get my finger in the picture, which is pretty much impossible to do with a nice, clear digital screen. But I digress.
For the most recent assignment in my photography class, we had to get a disposable camera and use it along side our digital cameras, taking exactly the same photos with each. This was so we could compare and contrast the quality of the images.
I was a wreck with ever film photograph I took, unable to see if it came out well or if I'd gotten my finger in the lens and overall, I kind of hated that part of the project. When I got the prints developed, unsurprisingly enough, a lot of the photographs were horrible and not to my liking at all. The subject mater was good, but the disposable camera was unable to properly capture some of my photos because of lighting or other issues. There were five or six photos that I really loved and four that I actually consider better than their digital counterparts.
So this is me--not renouncing my love of digital photography--rather, I'm finally conceding that film is better equipped to take some sorts of photos (mostly outdoors). And now I'm sharing the four photos that came out better than their digital equals. Enjoy.

This has to be my absolute favorite photo from you yet! I love how the snow lets those details shine on through and the surrealistic depth is great. I don't really know else what I like about this photo, at least none that I can explain in words. I guess it's the overall mood or feeling of these three people frozen in time (quite literally!) and there's like no one else in the background or around? I dunno, but like I said, I love the feeling that I get from it!

Yeah well, I always know a storm is bad when the Niagara people won't go out in it. And there is that stupid red car in the background, but that's parked there pretty much every day, so I couldn't do anything about it.
Thanks Jess!

It's creepy how the snow actually accents their faces...
Also I dislike the red car in the background, but that was out of your control. I really like this photo nonetheless though! Yay!

Thanks. Yeah, the car doesn't thrill me either, but it's been parked there every day since the beginning of the semester, so I really couldn't do anything about it.
