Description For Equestria Daily's "Newbie Artist Training Grounds."

Day 16 -- Draw a romantic pony/a pony on a date.

A quiet night, a very special occasion. She fidgeted in her seat, both anxious and thrilled at the same time. She had never done this before. Am I overdressed? she wondered. Underdressed? Does my hair look okay? Oh, I can't believe I agreed to this!

But she knew very well why she had agreed to it. She had dreamed of having a very special somepony ever since she was a filly. But now that she actually had one, and she was actually attending her very first date, she had to confess that she really didn't know what to do with herself. The butterflies in her chest gave her the most curious feeling of trepidation and exhilaration. She wondered if this was what it was like to be in love...

The sound of hooves approaching from behind brought her out of her nervous thoughts. They came closer and closer, until they stopped right behind her. Okay, this is it, she thought to herself. She slowly turned around and offered a shy smile.

She looks wonderful! I also really like how you didn't mention her special somepony by name - that let's the viewer interpret it how they wish to. Plus it means no shipping wars! Anyway, again, this picture is great!

Thank you very much! I was originally going to just ask people who they thought her very special somepony might be, but then I came up with the story snippet, and I thought it worked out better just with that. I'm not nailed down to any particular ship with any of the ponies, so that's why I left it open-ended. Thank you again!

Damn. Nice work, man. I think the most striking thing is her expression, which is accentuated by her pose. "Coy" is definitely the word I would use to describe how she looks. All the little details look nice too, like the flowers and the candle on the table.

Is this digitally altered at all, and are you still drawing with mechanical pencils? I think it might be time to take the plunge and pick up a set of sketching/drawing pencils. They really aren't that expensive and I think they'd make it easier to add more value to your pieces and shade large areas. I keep seeing the little "ridges" that form from overlapping strokes in your work. They're kind of a pet peeve of mine.

Overall I think this is very cute and ranks among your best work. For a laugh, I think I shall imagine that her date is with Iron Will. It's great to see you uploading so much! This challenge has really drawn up some great ideas from you

As always, thank you for the positive feedback! Trust me, I feel just as good to be uploading so much all the time!

The only thing I did to it digitally was adjust the saturation, which is the same thing I've done for all these drawings to make the lines and shading darker. Otherwise, no, still mechanical pencils. I know exactly what you're talking about with those 'ridges' though--they annoy me, as well. For you to say that I should take the plunge on drawing pencils is really quite uplifting. It makes me feel like my art is worth the investment, and that it really will make a difference for me. So thank you, man. I will invest in some of those pencils!

I keep imagining her date is Big Mac, but for some reason Rainbow keeps sneaking in there, too...

I like that you left it up to the viewer to decide

i have to say very nice work with the lighting effect on the background
but on that note i will add that the lighting on fluttershy doesnt make much sense in this context
seems it should be reversed

but aside from that your fluttershy is very well drawn
love the hair

well done

Many thanks, my friend! At first I was puzzled by what you said, so I took another look at it, and now I get it--the candle is behind her, not directly beside her. Good eye, man! I could always use help when it comes to lighting. Constructive criticism is always appreciated.
