Description Well...at some point we'll have to admit that Dumbledore is gay.

That fact makes me think of all the chapters in the book, all the things Dumbledore said once and all the things he did. And of all, I think this is the most freaky part.

What is the REAL thing Dumbledore sees in the mirror?
I bet 1000 galleons to Grindelwald. NO, NOT THE SOCKS. I can't trust him anymore.

2 hours on Photoshop.

I want mah cookie!

Nah, really. I...when I heard the news all I could think of was "OOhh damn you attention-whore-rowling!" Because there's really no point in saying Dumbledore was gay like...months later the whole story ended.

Then I remembered some of the scenes, and a friend and I found hilarious the idea that lead to this comic strip.

But, when I read the 7th book for the second time I really almost cried over the Dumbledore/Grindewald scenes..I mean, Harry's life is awful...but Dumbledore's is worse!

Dumbledore is one of my fave characters (right after Sirius Sexy Black), so I meant no hurt with this dev. Really ; ;!

Anyway, Grindelwald looks a lot like a girl in here (and the fact that Dumbledore is covering his chest make it more femalish). That make the comic lose part of the joke

And the socks thing... have you ever read Monsterous Regiment by Terry Pratchett? The word "socks" takes on a WHOLE new euphamistic meaning if you get my drift!

I hate to be a complete nerd about this, but J.K. said, and I quote "I always thought of him as gay." She didn't make him gay, she didn't write him as gay, she just said she THOUGHT of him as gay. I CANNOT bear to see poor Dumbledore slandered like this. No offense to gays or anything.

Besides, we all know she just said that to stir up a controversy. "Hmm, now that the series is over, how can I sell more books?" Put the pieces together, it's not at all difficult.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 4

feralfeline9 In reply to Troglodyte100 [2007-11-10 14:34:05 +0000 UTC]

She wasn't going to say this in the first place, but she was asked very specifically what Dumbledores orientation was. Also, I don't see how this could sell more books. Actually, many more people are LEAVING the series now that this news has come out.

JKR "thought" about alot of things that were not canonized. For instance, did you know that crookshanks is half kneazle? Did you know that Hermiones birthday is September 19th? That Molly Weasley's maiden name is Prewett? These are among many small facts that the author had in mind from the beginning, but never disclosed in the books because it wasn't relevant to the story.

And what is wrong with Dumbledore being gay? He is an advocate for tolerance of all people, and this just makes him more so. Dumbledore being gay not only doesn't bother me, but it makes me respect him even more.

When you think of gay, you are probably thinking of the efeminate fruity fashion designer sterotyped homosexual. That's just as ridiculous as claiming that all Japanese people play video games and read manga. Think of Sir Ian Mackellan. He's homosexual, but far from "fruity".

Stop being so closed minded.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Troglodyte100 In reply to feralfeline9 [2007-11-10 16:30:40 +0000 UTC]

Actually, Rowling was asked if Dumbledore ever fell in love. There was no mention of orientation in the question, she CHOSE to say so in what I believe was a publicity stunt.

You're right. There are many things not in the book that Rowling has declared, but they are NEVER canon until they are in the books. This way, these facts are not necessarily true and I can choose to ignore them.

I mostly have a problem with Dumbledore being gay because everyone is excited about it, and they make all these crude and stupid jokes about Dumbledore having secret "relations" with Harry, and so on. This is immature and completely unnesscessary. I realize not all gay people are flamingly effeminate, but I just read the books believing Dumbledore was straight, I am straight, and I want to relate to Dumbledore. There is absolutely no reason why he should be gay.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

feralfeline9 In reply to Troglodyte100 [2007-11-13 02:22:04 +0000 UTC]

Asking if he ever found love is basically the same thing. She was asked if he found love, and if she had answered "Yes! With Grindlwald!" obviously the question of his orientation would still have been answered.

In my opinion, anything an author considers to be fact about the series is canon. It might have well have been typed into the text of the books.

All of the people that I have spoken to about this aren't making stupid remarks. We are excited about the fact that this is new information about one of our favorite characters. Just because people are idiots is no reason to blame the author.

So, in your opinion, if you were white and JKR had never expressed that Dean was black, and you had pictured him as white throughout the series, then you would have been upset because he wasn't like you? Just because Dumbledore is different from you doesn't mean that you have to like him any less. I'm sure that you aren't, for instance, 150+ years old, or a wizard. These things never bothered you before.

I can think of a reason that he is gay. Like I said before, this establishes him more clearly as a promoter of tolerance. Also, it gives us more of a clear perspective on the pain that he went through while fighting his best friend and one love Grindelwald.

Well, you only half listened to everything I said, but I'm tired of fighting, so let's agree to disagree.

I must say though, you very much twisted my words in your third paragraph. To an almost upsetting level.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

feralfeline9 In reply to Troglodyte100 [2007-11-13 02:34:04 +0000 UTC]

No, I reread what you wrote twice, and I'm sure I addressed everything you said. I just didn't agree.

You said that you were annoyed that people were making idiotic remarks, and i inferred that you blamed the author on this. Unless you are referring to my fourth paragraph, in which I used a pretty appropriate metaphor.

And I didn't mean to call you racist. That was just an example. Hah hah.

Yes. I'm quite tired and I don't feel like arguing any further.

First of all, why would this sell more books? I'll bet fewer books will be sold now.
Second of all, how greedy do you have to be to make shit up for more money when you are already richer than the queen of England?
Nah, it doesn't make any sense that this is a stunt. I believe wholeheartedly that she really has had it in mind all along. The people who are claiming that this is a conspiracy just don't want Dumbledore to be gay.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Troglodyte100 In reply to anotherminerva [2007-10-24 20:50:36 +0000 UTC]

Not a conspiracy. Just one very greedy author.

It will sell more books because previously uninterested gays will buy the series to have something to rally around. It will sell more books because literature enthusiasts and homophobes looking for something to complain about will buy the books looking for clues of homosexuality. And you'd be how surprised how greedy people can be.

Besides, wanting more money doesn't always mean you're greedy. My mom came from a very poor family and even though she lives comfortably now, she is anxious at yard sales because she thinks we aren't selling things for enough money. My dad's prices can sometimes be lower than half of my mom's.

You have a point and opinion, and I respect that. But JKR gives so much to charity! She could have written those handwritten copies of "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" to gain money for herself, but instead she wrote them for Charity. XDD and ignore my icon on this matter. I just made it because I was extremely bored looking up and Death Note stuff o.0

I actually think it explains a lot--Dumbledore really neglected his siblings to be with Grindelwald, and that's not the Dumbledore we know . . . but now that we know he was in love, it explains why he did that. And yes, I'm sure it will sell more books, but I'm glad she told us. It takes some of the hate away from Dumbledore that was generated by the last book.
