I love hydrangeas - they're so pretty, even in death

gorgeous tones, great composition. The detail is fantastic, and the DOF is spot on- not ridiculously shallow but shallow enough to make an impact. I love it.
You inspire me to keep persevering with Canon.

Thanks
Sounds like your having issues with your move to digital-slr?!

I'm finding it a bit underwhelming. I think because I'm used to using a manual SLR I was expecting to have the same control over images only better-because-its-digital-and-cost-£500.
The kit lens doesn't seem to be capable of the kind of sharpness I thought it would. Perhaps its just me.
I am having real issues with the AF though. When using Av mode, the AF doesn't focus no matter how momentarily I press the shutter, it just twitches back and forth in and out of focus. Incredibly frustrating. But then if I switch to MF my eyesight is so crap that what appears to be in focus when I'm shooting turns out to be nothing of the sort.
Yeah thats just a taster of what I've been bitching about for the past few months

The kit lens is ok, stopped down to f/8 it should be fairly sharp. Sounds like you need to grab yourself a Siggy 30 f/1.4 or Canon 28 f/1.8 to get that 50mm film feel back. Get yourself a few good actions in photoshop and sounds like you'd be much happier
Your focus issues sound strange, is it just in the dark? If its just in Av mode I'd get it checked out, if its naff at focusing, it should be rubbish in all modes

I think I'll test it further before getting it checked, I've been using mostly Av as that suits me and its what I used with my old cam.
I don't have photoshop and definitely don't have the 50-100 quid to get it. What I am beginning to realise though- horrified as I am to admit it- is that all the great images I've seen people take with 350d and 400d are definitely not straight off the camera but quite heavily 'tweaked' in photoshop. I think thats what disappointed me the most. Digital seems to be only able to give you the start of a great image (or in my case a mediocre one).
I want the wrong thing out of photography as I want to be able to shoot a great image and not have to alter it on a computer to make it look good. It should just happen as I'm shooting. That's always been what I've tried to work towards but I really can't see it happening.
I think I'll stop taking up so much room in your comments now
