I recall those adds.Β I'd walk a mile for a Camel.Β The one I best liked were for Kent Cigaretes, which had a nice jingle (blessed by the fact that "Kent" rhymes with so many words - "regiment" "which way they went", etc.).Β The Simpson's spoofed it too with a commercial from the 1950s wherein the pitchman starts coughing while praising the flavor of the cigarettes.Β Interestingly Fred Allen actually spoofed the idea of cigarette commercials on his radio program when he has an ad for "Puffy Cigarettes".Β That was in the 1940s.

There's also Doodles Weaver on Spike Jones' radio show, with this marvelous jingle for Pootwaddle Cigarettes...
"Light a Pootwaddle in yourt pocket,
Β Watch it burn a hole in your coat,

Yes it is a classic.Β Up there with that jingle Bugs Bunny gets on his two war radio (when stranded on the moon), "Crunchy wunchies are the best, look delicious on your chest...."

I was born in 1961, so I think I might be the last generation to remember cigarette ads on the TV...
