Description
we met within the mistsomewhere between the moon and stars,
a gothic angel and a pale gentleman
lost deep inside the night.
as you tilted your head upward
porcelain teeth reflected
the glow of the nocturne within a sea of seduction
and i recall musing to myself
that i had scarcely seen a woman so fair.
black dress and light-colored skin
crimson lips and ethereal eyes,
the chill of death converged with
the warmth of passion
as though the light of sun had emerged
to send us both to our funeral pyres.
and when i kissed those lips
the soul within me clamored to be sold to you
as though it were still up for purchase.
i could have made love to you all night
underneath the moon and stars
within the mist and running through
rows of cemetery stones
and fields of thorny roses.
feeling your teeth inside my skin
and your breath upon my face.
i could have indulged you both body and blood
both heart and flesh combined
for countless evenings in the shadows;
if only you'd not slipped away.
perhaps the draw of night,
which holds us both within its spell,
forced us back into the depths of immortal darkness.
perhaps devils such as i
were not meant to experience redemption for long.
i only know for sure that
with the fire of your body pressed against mine
i came as close to touching heaven
as a vampire gentleman shall ever come.

The idea of them both, of you, etc, running through the gravestones is great imagery. I enjoyed this one quite a lot, despite the departure from the mortal beloved - which I seem to recall you told us was coming - so you wrote it very well.

So romantic, so lonely - "if only you'd not slipped away." The longing and the heartache must be unbearable for you at times.

I love poems that tell stories as well...especially one so sad. Life as a vampire must be so lonely.
Well done!

Thank you, dear Kira.

This was erotic in a subtle way, with a poignant touch of romance to temper those fires. I adored this line: "...the soul within me clamored to be sold to you as though it were still up for purchase." I also tip my hat to the final stanza and the "gentleman vampire" who penned it.

Thank you, dear Denise. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Always a subtle eroticism with me, it seems. But the gentleman vampire cannot help himself, especially when it comes to her.
