Description stay my hand, oh fates.
oh, silent deities enthroned above, look down upon the killer
and stay his hand.

just another moment longer.
anticipation runs through my body like a drug,
a narcotic coursing through my veins.
i need the thrill as much as i need to see the blood
to know the fear; to live inside the fear.
to consume the chaos of the aftermath.

i inhale it; tendrils of decadence.
i embody the shadowy persona,
that name without a face.
the one that forces a chilling smile
upon this cold and calculating visage.

i count the heartbeats.
one tick,
two ticks,
three ticks more.

my eyes fixed upon the prize.

hands are steady; gods, keep them steady.
a bead of sweat runs down my brow.
my palm caresses the hilt of my blade.
stay my hand, fates. stay my hand.
i need to feel the fear.

does he sense the shiver?
does he feel the breath upon his neck?
the assassin approaches.
does he hear the footsteps?
does he hear the blade sliding from the sheath?
standing still...
so still...
as still as the twilight sky.

blade drawn, metal slides through being,
piercing flesh and soul alike.
depleting him and filling me;
oh, glorious narcotic!
oh, spellbinding sensation!
beautiful crimson, sliding down the body
before the body falls
at the feet of the assassin.

i smile the killer's smile.
the taste of murder on my tongue,
my eyes raise toward the heavens.
bloodlust sated,
until bloodlust mounts again.

stay my hand, oh fates.
celestial beings watching over the dark passenger of my soul.
stay my hand until the time comes
for the assassin to kill again.

To be honest, I'm not fond of really long poems but this one I read all the way to the end. Great words but I'm sad that it's just not my cup of tea. I guess I just don't like dark poems, could that be?

it is very possible. i know many who like my darker work do not like my more romantic poems and vice versa, for instance. we each have our preferences.
thank you for reading, though!

I do love your romance poems. Also, I think it depends on my mood, and I'm sure you could say the same. Sometimes a poem comes at the wrong time.

I'm weird though. I could read this piece of yours in another 3 days or so and then love it. Am I the only one that feels this way? lol

Wow, this is a great piece. It reaches out and grabs the reader and draws one in to the assassin's mind very well. I felt like I was there. Great job!
