Description
I still haven't figured out,How to rid my mind,
Of your smell.
It taunts me through,
Parks and city streets.
Through moments,
Mundane; ordinary.
My body still.
My mind drifting elsewhere.
It walks into,
The realm of reverie,
And there you are.
Your unique perfume;
The first thing I sense.
That mixture of,
Brashness and gentleness,
Warmth and contempt;
The fire of rage,
The aroma of passion.
Sugar and spice,
Tickling at me,
Until I feel,
Your skin,
Underneath my nose.
Inhaling deeply.
Your hair sways;
Your head turns.
I don't have to,
Open my eyes,
Because your scent reflects,
Your happiness;
Your warmth.
I see your smile,
Inside my mind.
Your voice speaks,
What your body has,
Already been telling me.
Proclamations of love.
I say it too;
If just for the excuse,
To steal another,
Lingering breath.
Memorizing you once again.
Knowing the moment,
I open my eyes,
You will be gone.
The wind steals your scent.
But I know it will be there,
The next time my mind drifts,
And I long for your presence again.
Because, I haven't figured out,
How to rid my mind
Of you.

Thank you kindly, Sabrina. I appreciate your warm words and your adding my poem to your collection.
Smell evokes some of the more visceral memories I possess. Amazing how something so simple can attach itself to something so intense.

You are very welcome. You are very right. It is amazing how it attaches itself, even if it is a not so good memory.

ah, fantastic.
I always think smell is a very nderused sense...and yet its one of the best triggers for memory of the lot. I think you've really capture that here.
I love this section:
"I say it too;
If just for the excuse,
To steal another,
Lingering breath."

Thank you kindly. It seems to evoke memory the most for me, be it by my nature or the nature of the beast itself in being estranged from a loved one. I can never tell the difference sometimes.
I appreciate your comment.
