I haven't got a clue. It's supposedly designed to predict future conjunctions and rendevoux points of bodies in space. But maybe it isn't supposed to work - just look cool. But I've heard someone say that there's a large version (huge and 3-D at Disneyland at the entrance to tomorrowland.
