Description
This is the first image of many new images to come from my trip to Glacier National Park. It was quite a trip, with lots of drama, scares, crappy weather, and near death experiences. I wanted to get a great sunrise on my birthday with the beautiful peaks and wildflowers around, but upon arriving to our location, it was completely fogged in. I decided to venture up regardless alone as my friend decided he would continue sleeping in the truck. About a mile up the trail and you couldn't tell what was around you. The fog was about as thick as it gets, and being alone in an area where grizzlies frequently wander through, I decided it was best to head back down towards the parking area. While on my way back, two bighorn sheep jumped out from a bend in the trail and literally scared me half to death. There I was face to face with two rams. They weren't very interested luckily, and disappeared into the fog. Once I got closer to the lot the fog opened up a little and the two rams were running down the hill towards me. I could hear their heavy footsteps getting louder and tried to stay calm. Again, luck was on my side and they veered off again into the fog. With no sunrise to shoot, I walked around the parking lot where there was a pretty impressive view of the mountains and valley below. There was a nice meadow just before the edge, and as I peered over I noticed a few rumps poking over the grass. Sure enough, there were the rams. Four of them. They slowly made their way towards me while grazing, and came within close enough distance for my 200mm lens range. Of course, many other people showed up to watch and photograph the bighorns as they were curious as to what I was looking at. It was a nice consolation prize for getting skunked by the light on my birthday.Bighorn Ram- Glacier National Park, Montana.
