do you use a lot of textures/photos in that (so does it have parts of a matte painting?) or is it all hand-drawn?

Yes, I use them. Amount depends on how much time I want to save or how much detail I want to put there.
When I want to do sth fast - I may even use photo as base to overpaint.
In this case I've painted base as in second picture, then overpainted it and added texture in steps 4,5 then overpainted it to blend it togehter
I'll post video in 2016, look forward for that
