Description Concept of scifi rifle for fictional scenario. No ammo, but energy pack in rear section.Β I worked in 3ds max, used vray rendering engine and finished it in photoshop. Model is highpoly. I did only one picture this time, but it is quite big as usual.Β

So what do you think. Do you like it or not? tnx for comments if any. bye.

P.S.
I added another model meant to be family with this one . (C17v3 )

The design is impressive but it is used commonly except for the front part of the weapon which has a original touch, I honestly do not know about the application used to create the weapon but I believe that the idea of the artist was created perfectly in the final result except for the background color which I don't believe matches enough with the weapons colors, in the end what I believed is the jewel of this weapon is that it used energy or lasers as its projectile which lets the viewer imagen what its like when its fired and when it hits its target, letting the viewer personalize the weapon the way they prefer.

Hi and tnx. yea I did that mag on purpose in bright yellow just to bring some diference into design and color map. Without that whole model would be partially boring and in one color...

Very cool!, Looks a bit more like linear motor projectile weapon than a directed energy but still a very slick design. Your weapon designs have really improved a great deal, much more practical and researched these days.

Pretty cool, I could see this being used in some future/alt present war-game. It actually reminds me A LOT of the Scout Rifle weapon sub-class from Destiny. It's different from the ones we have now and will get in TTK though, so if this were to be in the game, it might be some kind of Exotic. Looks like it would reach far and hit hard in any case, would love to have a 3D-printed model of it.

concerning the material you use on the surface of the handle and handguard (and pretty much everywhere, I'm talking about this maybe bump or displacement map (idk) that looks all lumpy), I'd suggest that you try something else, this "composite polymer look" is used in almost all the "scify rifle concepts" I see over the net and devianArt.

Why not try to enhance the design and originality with something else ? I'm not telling you what, you decide, but please give it a thought.

Otherwise (and even including that material that is visually completely ok) that's a killer design, lots of small details that make it believable and it's gorgeous.

hi. tnx you. And can you suggest some materials? When I tried something else then people raise objections. it is too slippy not good for grip Β or it looks like toy. Most designs are based on steel I think.Β

Dorshiffe In reply to peterku [2015-07-01 22:47:12 +0000 UTC]

I don't know what would work in real life or even look like it would work irl. But if I had to design a gun I have a few ideas, like half organic looking material (not necessarily wood, could be leather looking stuff, or other things that are yet to be invented), like veins that would give a good grip and still look manufactured and futuristic. This is just one idea that could use some variations, though I'm not an artist and I don't know how to create such a texture so it's just a concept.

Another idea would be a material associated with a technological concept for a glove, that would make the grip firm despite a slick surface. Concerning the appearance I'm thinking of a double surface, an external transparent/translucid layer of encapsulation over an internal layer of the magnetic/whatever material that would go with the gloves. That would allow some cool design and rendering opportunities with the combination of two materials, the setting of opacity level of the varnish layer, relation between the upper/lower material (maybe using SSS shaders, idk what's possible)...

Well I know for sure there are some cool materials waiting to be invented, that's yout job to make them be .

tnx for ideas. I allready thought about some kind of organic rifles, but problems is that whenever I used some non Standard material then people stronglt disagree...

As a person who has fired weapons in the military, the only nitpick I have is that it seems that to operate the fire selector, you would have to move your hands. Β Most RL firearms can switch firing mode with the thumb of the firing hand (assuming you are right handed, a common issue).

Other than that, it looks good. Β Compact, not many things that might get caught on things like branches and such, maybe have the front grip extend closer to the end of the barrel.

Madmann135 [2015-07-01 03:00:55 +0000 UTC]

It seems incomplete
1 - There is no under barrel Picatinny rail.
2 - The sides of the barrel shroud do not have attachment points for side Picatinny rails.
3 - The fire selector is not ergonomic.

Other than the stated, I think the design is nice.Β  The design could easily be modified into a small caliber rail gun.
By small caliber I mean 4mm-ish small.Β

I take those points. Specfically I planned to do fire selector more ergonomics but I forgot it while modeling and when handle has been done I realise i couldnt use it so I did it like it is now.

Could make for a nice energy based Battle Rifle. Nice heavy "round" and great accuracy at range, good for engineer's and scouts looking for decent stopping power without losing that range advantage in combat. Heretic1311 did make a valid point however, a rail system under the barrel would make good use of a foregrip, as I doubt an energy weapon this awesome would lack recoil.

The day-glow colored power pack is a nice touch.

Not sure how, but those two back swept diagonals effectively sell the thing as an energy weapon rather than a slug thrower.

You gave it a Picatinny rail on top, but ,what about underbarrel?
That grip part would make sense if it would be modular.
Being swapped out for tactical foregrip with Taclite, maybe a futuristic grenade launcher (if their guns are energy, i wonder how hard their grenades hit).
