Description
M-20.8 Concept of sci-fi rifleCode name: BOAR.D
This is 3th (and last for now) concept of boxy design. This one, Box-er (peterku.deviantart.com/art/Box… and Box-set (peterku.deviantart.com/art/Box… are similar. They are similar in profiles and also idea of boxy style based on fact that all components are hidden inside protective plain body. There are only necessary parts outside of body. It could be practical probably but if whole model consists of only few parts it caused that modeling is done quickly (not requiring big skill) but also there are not places which could attract eye attention and whole model could seems flat and boring.
It is DEW model. All devices are hidden, no any clue how it works. There is only visible battery at the end. Have to use your own imagination what principle it is working on. I avoided aggressive look. Scope is also one big box. I welded a large handle on the top. Coloring is also discreet. Just black and grey.
I did it in 3ds max and as rendering engine was used V-ray. Plus bit of photoshop at the end.
I did several pictures:

So what do you think? Tnx for comments if any. Bye.

This is how I imagine the empee from John Scalzi's "Old Man's War" looks.
Except for the scope; Brainpal makes it redundant.

God, that is nice. I love your boxy style of design.

Beautiful piece of design while the basic geometry of the weapon looks simple the detailed work in its surface is excellent.

This is a nice design. Having handled a few military rifles in my time, a couple of details I have noticed.
The controls under the scope and the Safety Selector switch in front of the trigger seem very small and delicate. Controls are usually over-sized so when you are wearing gloves you can still manipulate them. Soldiers like stuff well-built with tactile responses to being used.
The other thing is the rifle lacks any sling attachment points like you would see on the newer military rifles. Some flush mount sockets wouldn’t change the design much.
Or i could be wrong and this design is intended for the civilian sector. Oh we can dream.

Hi. i didnt need hat mount point. battery and laser aim is welded in front mask as it is visible on ther pictures.... So I thought mount system on handle is enough...

It looks like there's a bit of the old nintendo game console and controllers as inspiration. Very well done.

I like it. But you would have to have a massive hand for that grip to work

Looks awesome.
When the game comes out, where I can shoot this thing?

Looks fantastic.
I'm going to be nit-picky over the grammar/spelling though, because I'm an asshat like that. Battery is spelled with two "t"s; and "...battery is engaged" would probably look better than "...battery's engaged".

I would suggest that this is a hand-held railgun, able to fire bursts of 1x6, 2x3 or 3x2 or indivually at 6x1 depending on mode. The magazine for the pellets are obviously at the back, a loading mechanism picks them up and places them at their individual barrels, and then they're fired down rails. Powersource is something more powerful than we have available at the moment, the scope is connected to the laser targetter and range-finder, giving the user a good, detailed view from the targetting computer to show where the shots will land.
Alternatively, it could just be a laser rifle, firing UV laserbeams at several thousand watts (UV because it has a higher energy than say, red light. Green beams, I think, pack the most power in today's lasers, but I'm not sure. Could be green beams in this rifle. Idk.)
And as stated in my reply to 's comment, it's a really nice design, though the grip could've been a little more rounded.

Is there anyway to make and post a pepakura file for these? So someone could craft these out of paper?

Very interesting design, seems reminiscent of the G11 automatic rifle (or whatever the actual military designated name is). I like how smooth and polished the design is. The render is very clean and detailed. I have to say, the grip looks a bit uncomfortable, but that is just my opinion. Overall, a very nice piece of hardware.
Why did I not say this in a critique? I don't feel that I am qualified to critique other peoples art for public opinion, #1: I am too biased against certain things. And #2: I am no expert in any form of artwork. I am a 3D hobbyist, but I'm nowhere near this level.
Forgive my rambling and the need to explain myself.
Keep up the good work! I'd love to see more!

You're right on the grip, it's too square-ish. It could've done with a little bit of rounding off, but the general shape is actually very comfortable. Like, take the H&K-SL8 as example, it's got something along the same lines, and it's surprisingly comfortable to hold.
And I concur with the overall appreciation of the design, it's really well done, and even a plausible design as well. I've seen several scifi-ish weapon designs that defy logic. This weapon looks like it could be made into production.
