Description This is a sketch I did in about an hour with colour just to see what a house would turn out like in my style...if I can call it that (my style always changes). Anyway this is it and am quite happy with the result. Please leave any suggestions or constructive criticism in the comments.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day .

Thanks . I think doing a few more of these would be good as styling can take an average looking drawing and really up its appeal to potential employers and everyone else for that matter except photo realistic painters but we don't like talking about them .

yes, maybe making like a small town out of them once you've designed each house individually and put each illustration on a cute little map! that would be cool -u- i do love stylising, i used to get told off for it in art but not any more being an A-level student >D as long as it's tasteful stylisation, it's fantastic makes your work stand out
photo realistic painters? bitch please, I'm fabulous!
haha, yeah, the photo-realismists are pretty cool though, i know a couple and witnessing their work in progress is so, well, wow. it's freaky amazing!

PeterStringer In reply to Eadyu [2012-06-20 19:45:11 +0000 UTC]

I could do that and it would look actually pretty awesome! Plus I could draw some character that would live there.

A levels burn my arse man cus they are basically quick access to university and don't actually prepare you for real life like a diploma from college does. Sorry, that is a known truth but they are good to get into uni that is one true fact.

Yea I know photorealism can be really nice though I have always loved the cartoony exaggerated look. Do you ever read ImagineFx magazine? That has some truly bitching artists in it .

Eadyu In reply to PeterStringer [2012-06-23 17:40:36 +0000 UTC]

That would be so cool

They're really difficult yes, but i feel like they're worth the effort, and you can get a job on A-levels. But i plan on going to university so i guess your point here is invalid.

yeah i read imageFX, it's really good, and the artists are actually here on DA, i'm watching several of them tey produce even more amazing art than what's featured in the magazine.

Yep I shall start work on that soon, just got back from holiday.

Oh yea you can get a job from them but they just don't do the best job of making you aware of the industry(s) outside the classroom if you get what I mean.

Oh man they are sooo awesome and so are the traditional artists they feature as well!

cool, had fun?

maybe you're thinking about college, 6th form at a school is much more personal, and more informative, you can get advice and help that you cant get from somewhere where you're just a number.

i know right!

PeterStringer In reply to Eadyu [2012-07-01 11:02:18 +0000 UTC]

I did indeed though it had its ups and downs.

College is personal and they treat you like an adult unlike sixth form where you're still a little kid to the teachers plus at college you get lecturers in from industry talking to you about life in the workplace, what to expect and how to get there, very valuable. Also you get proper design briefs regarding your chosen area of expertise, for me it was Illustration and animation.

i dunno what college you went to, but obviously things are much different where i go and at our local college

PeterStringer In reply to Eadyu [2012-07-02 17:29:36 +0000 UTC]

Yep I went to west Suffolk college, one of the best in the country. Some colleges can be really bad like Harlow college which is why I never went there. At out college you got a lot of contact time with tutors in and outside of the classroom, kinda what made it so cool.

well around here college sucks, and the 6th forms are kinda cool, at least ours is.

I can imagine that would discourage yu from going to college, I'm glad sixth form is working out so well and good luck with it.

Just got back from the Deevmeet in London and am sooooo tired .

Oh yea definitely, London is where it's at. The guys at the meet yesterday didn't give an exact date but they did say they could organise another meet this July/August if enough people were interested so hopefully we'll be back in London soon .

PeterStringer In reply to Shamman11 [2012-06-15 16:15:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man . I think houses, bins and other stuff that is exaggerated in its shape looks good just like they do in Crash Bandicoot .

Shamman11 In reply to PeterStringer [2012-06-15 21:27:34 +0000 UTC]

Ah yeah thats very right, objects in exaggerated forms/styles really adds to the mood, intensity and atmosphere to the environment.

PeterStringer In reply to Shamman11 [2012-06-16 03:02:17 +0000 UTC]

I have never been a fan of photo realistic painting because I see no point in it really, might as well take a photo but buildings with character and unusual form just look so awesome!...to me at least .

Have you ever watched the ice age films? I love the exagerated style the use there but they don't have houses for obvious reasons .

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shamman11 In reply to PeterStringer [2012-06-16 22:29:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I see what u mean there dude about photorealistic painting. Yeah I too would also take a photo and have fun and exaggerate the scenery and make things unusual, really adds to the interest in the piece. Yeah I've watched Ice Ages 1 and 2, actually I think I've seen some part of the 3rd film too.

PeterStringer In reply to Shamman11 [2012-06-17 09:39:32 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! They actually have a video on ctrlpaint.com about taking photos and doing just that, it is from watching that video that I have been able to develops characters more effectively.
