Hiya, saw that you wanted a critique on this so I'll give it my best shot.
First of all, I think it's great that you have the character interacting with the background a lot (all the points of contact with the stairs), something which people generally don't bother to do because it's harder. But I do think that the lineart ends up looking a bit heavy, mainly because it's all in black and quite thick, so it stiffens the pose somewhat. To get around that you can recolour certain parts of the line or make it really thin/almost broken in certain parts and thick in other parts. I also like the fact that you have so much leather in the piece too, I really hat drawing it because it's annoying to shade but you dealt with it great. One thing that did stick out to me though is the hair, when you zoom in it looks a bit like you were unsure as to how to deal with it, as there are lots of only slightly darker bits of shading that you don't notice zoomed out. I would try and copy how one of your favourite artists draws/shades hair as closely as possible so you can get an idea as to one way you can make life easier for yourself.
Hopefully this all helps, and if you have any questions do feel free to give a shout
Edit: Just realised that in the original post that you didn't want the jacket to be leathery, oops. If you want it to look softer (i.e. more matte) then you need to get rid of those strong highlights, soft things just won't have reflective parts like leather, and focus more on making a shadow gradient at the edge of the material.

Thank you for all your detailed help!!
ToT I'm glad you appreciate that ssskfks most of my drawings aren't posed, let alone have a background at all, so I knew I wanted to do *something* with it !!
I think the lineart is pretty heavy, too, so I'm glad it wasn't just me thinking that. I know I struggle with getting lineart to look right, but I think perhaps as you mentioned varying the thickness more would be good. I actually did one of those overlay tricks for the lineart, so imagine if it was actually flat black T.T; I'll keep this in mind next time!
you're actually spot-on on the hair, too. my usual way of coloring hair is more detailed as I really like to see the strands so it actually looks like hair, rather than this way I've done here that looks more flat. I'm really glad you gave feedback on this so I can be more sure of myself on that method next time! honestly it's been such a long time since I drew a canon anime character, I think that's one thing that threw me off on this LOL but I think it's good practice bc all my OCs kinda look the same (hairwise especially LOL)
HAHA yeah, the coat was great at first and then I think i made it too tricky for myself with all the contrast. Finding a balance between "enough depth" and "fits the texture" is hard, so I'll work on it! I think I saved a couple versions of the file of this pic so I might tweak it some if I feel like it
PS I saw your other comment lol! I think you're definitely right, I did this pic way too fast, even if over the course of a few days I still should have at least worked a bit more patiently.
Thank you again for your thorough comment, I really appreciate it and I'll try to take it into account for next time!! <3

That's totally OK, it was easy to talk about a lot because it was clear you put a lot of effort and time into this!
I don't think you need to necessarily spend longer on it, more that from the looks of things you wanted to do a lot of new stuff in this 'piece' (I don't know what else to call it ) which is something I do a lot too. But it always makes it so much longer and harder, as nothing seems to be going the way you planned because you're drawing almost everything in the picture for the first time.
Sorry if that feels a bit too much 'DO THIS' but it's just a struggle I have a lot and we seem to have it in common Hence the mini-rant. I could go on for a very long time on this subject. My life is plagued by so many art moments.

AH NO i feel that 100% !! I recently drew a pic for a friend where somehow I went totally off the rails and tried doing something compleeeetely different and it really did take like 9039489320 years and looking at it it's, like, an okay pic but I'm just like... Why did I do that......LMAO such is the life of an artist I guess,,,
but yeah, I get you! I'm glad I'm not the only one with these struggles ssdkfdfksjd
