I own Apex Launcher but have not played with it. I only recently adopted my beloved nexus7 from Walmart. I plan to Root it in the future, but I'm unsure about an alternate ROM. For the time being, I'm trying to be as safe as possible. I know rooting is typical and a good thing to do, but I want to learn more about it first.

Thanks for your photo. It's hard finding Nexus7 pron on dA.
