How do you set up a nice small scene like that? It doesn't look like you would need a lot of terrain or even much of an ecosystem to pull off, just a small hill with carefully spaced plants and a nice low camera angle.

Well you are right and wrong at the same time.As much as it is simple to put it together, it takes a lot to get it right.Correct scale is always important if you want realism. to get exactly what you want, almost all major elements are placed manually. Only the ground ecosystem is populated. Even the foreground plants are placed manually.From the camera to the far off distance is all 'full' no corners cut. I try to make the scene as realistic as much as i can. That is my method anyway. Am sure there are many great ways of pulling it off. Cheers.
