I would like to color more often but I don't have the time to. So once in a while I'll color in some of my lineart like this one for example when I have some extra time for myself.

Nice color picks... 40 layers you say?? wow... how'd ya keep track?
For me, it's three layers on average (one for lineart, another for basic color, another for shadows) and a few additional ones (maybe a layer for shines, and also effects and/or background) in Photoshop.

The 40 layers I stated was toward my 03-AALIYAH,now in color and Golem, Now in color was a total of 21.
Oh I label each layer to their respective parts like i.e. Arms base color, next is arms joint color, next is arms shades pt1, arms shade pt2 and ect. Never lost track yet

Well if you using Photoshop you really don't need GIMP then for GIMP is a freeware almost comparable Photoshop though Photoshop does have more options though

When I color in photoshop I use about 3 layers. On top I have my lines, underneath that I use colors so that they don't merge with the lines (makes it like a coloring book) then on the bottom I use a blank white layer. Sometimes I'll make a rough sketch skeleton or a background with a 4th layer.

Do you use a tablet? If you don't already have one then I highly reccomend one to anybody who uses photoshop, GIMP or anything of that nature.

Yeah, I use a wacom and photoshop- I draw in PS and color in it, too

One layer is great for your type so far, but if your going to get into more complicated stuff more layers also prevent screw ups as well as adding some dimension in terms of shades and effects not to mention it also helps to focus on certain parts like core, arms, head and legs instead of all at once and can be a pain to undo. Heh, if you thought 21 layers was a lot, the 03-AALIYAH took around 40 layers.

Nice.^_^ I have a few ideas for an evil mech I thought up a while ago. Regular weapons armory, but despite its size, it's far from slow due to most of the weapons having boosters built in.
