Description
Of course, I was right behind her. For her age, she was really running. But her speed was nothing compared to my curiosity and determination. She was heading straight for the door that never opens. I felt so confused – Ms Anette was acting so strange, and I think I was starting to act a bit strange as well. That's when it happened, or should I say that's when Harry happened. "Hello Iris!" he gleefully yelled at me. Even though he's really cute, this wasn't the best time for me to interact with my cousin. "Harry, not now please! Just go!" I told him. Not waiting to see if he left or not, I pushed my focus back to Ms Anette. "Tell me what's going on!" I pleaded. She didn't seem to hear me. Ms Anette was still smiling as she went through the book. I thought I could get her to talk to me if she wasn't holding the book – so I did the first thing I could think of and snatched the book straight out of the crazy librarian's hands. It's not going to be easy to describe what I experienced next. First, let me tell you that there were words on the pages of the book. Not words that Ms Anette just wrote, but words that had magically formed themselves when Ms Anette ripped the paper. Also it wasn't an ordinary storybook – it was a guide. Flipping through it again and again, I hoped something would make some sense. I think I could hear my heart pounding in my chest, along with everyone else. Ms Anette was calmly gazing at me. Her voice softly bounced through the library as she spoke, "Read that page, Iris." No doubt, I didn't know why she would want me to do that, but I obeyed. "Let the key of words move the door to allow access to the hopeful finders of the tear, only opening at their touch," I read aloud. Ms Anette nodded approvingly and reached out her hand for the doorknob. It easily slid beneath her hand. The words must have worked! I always wondered what was behind that door, and now I finally get to find out. My excitement and confusion mix together. It's a weird feeling. Watching Ms Anette enter the mysterious room, I follow. Then together we walk and gasp in amazement at what we see. An amazingly large room appears to unfold around us. The high ceiling had beautiful skylights, and they lit up the checkered tiles on the floor. I heard the door that led back to the library shut which meant we were closed in. But I wasn't worried about that. I could see so many more doors that obviously led to more undiscovered rooms everywhere! Before exploring, I let my eyes rest on Ms Anette. "Explain everything!" I ordered. Taking a deep breath, Ms Anette looked my right in the eye. "That book is called 'The key of secrets'. My father gave it to me when he gave me his old library. He died, but not before giving me a mission. I had to remember everything I'd forgotten, do everything right – and fix up all of my mistakes …" she started, a hint of grief beginning to show in her eyes. "The only way to unlock the door is to read straight out of the book the exact words you said. I just couldn't remember how to get the words to appear, so I decided I needed someone who would notice something I had missed, and then tell me what it is. So I convinced you to borrow it," Ms Anette finished."So then what's the book about? What is this room for?' I asked the biggest questions in my head at the moment. I was hoping for the answers.
Instead I got, "You'll have to find out yourself. You can read it now, you know!" I guess it's time I finished off my goal of reading every book at the local library.
