It may be old but it is really cool animation and your horse anatomy is excellent.
Especially the propulsion from the hocks! Great work 13 years ago. I bet you are even
better now.

Oh, I have no idea, not very long, I made this over 10 years ago to test a program.Β

It was drawn in Photoshop and then animated with Macromedia Flash. I'd had to reinstall Macromedia, I can't remember what was going on, either something with importing images from PS or saving the finished files.Β

Do you have resources for learning the basics of it? Maybe a youtube video recommendation?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PhantomLexicon In reply to CreativeFitness [2018-07-16 21:47:04 +0000 UTC]

Ah...well, I wouldn't recommend Macromedia, it's been dead for years. It was designed to create Flash animations using vector tools, but could also import files from Photoshop to use as frames (which is what I was doing).Β

At this point, you don't need Flash to make an animation like this, most art programs can save as an animated .gif without a problem, and can be displayed by just about any device. Flash is really only useful now if you need the animation to be interactive, and many devices no longer display Flash content Β due to both security concerns and the fact that flv/flash is a proprietary format developed by Macromedia and now owned by Adobe, who has a long standing feud with Unix, which is now best known for providing the Android operating systems.Β

This animation is just a hand-drawn series of images, each image is set as a layer, then an animation utility is used to display a particular layer on that frame in an animation. Any art program that can save an animated .gif could be used to make it, Photoshop CS2 or later have animation utilities, some of them require exporting it to another program (which should come bundled with PS). I'm not sure as far as other art programs go, I'm pretty sure most decent ones can make animated .gifs.Β

I really have no idea about animation programs, that's really not my thing. Back when I learned to animate it was still taking pictures of hand-drawn cells.Β

Wow that's quite the information! I really appreciate your thorough answer. So good ole' redraw the pictures and place them as layers then use Photoshop CS2 or + to "animate" them. Nice! Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. How has your day been going?
