Description I often wondered what JRR Tolkien would have made of the film adaptions of his LOTR trilogy.
Tolkien died in 1973, and it would be 23 years untill a New Zealand director called Peter Jackson, thought it would be 'cool' to make the trilogy into films.
It's a shame the two never met, i'm sure Tolkien would have more than a little input, and maybe the films would have been different to the ones we know and love today.
I thought that if they couldn't meet in real life, then I could bring them together on paper.
This is my fantasy art of JRR Tolkien visiting Peter Jackson on the Edoras set.

Finally, the master comes face-to-face with the disciple.

Pencils on A3, 5 hours approx

N.B. This was sold on eBay to a guy out in New Zealand. I thought i was quite fitting the the art should be drawn in England, the homeland of Tolkien, and sent to New Zealand, the homeland of Jackson.
Poetic justice indeed.

UPDATE 09/02/2012 Today this was featured on the Facebook page of theonering.net, (anyone who has the slightest inkling of Tolkien fan-base will know who these guys are) and posted on the walls of over 51,000 fans!!
I am very proud to have been recognised by these guys

I loved this so much I shared it to Facebook. Just an awesome picture I freaking love it! The idea of what would have happened with the movies if the two of them had actually met...it's just awe-inspiring isn't it?

They are not kings, they're higher than Eru in some way!

Eru IlΓΊvatar was Tolkiens version of God.
How can they ascend to a higher level than a God?
I DO see what you're saying though

I know about Eru, but it was JRRT who created him! So he's higher than Eru!

I understand Christopher Lee and J.R.R. Tolkien were friends, and Christopher Lee asked Tolkien for his blessing to play Gandalf if movies were ever made... Yet, Peter Jackson made him Saruman instead, and gave Ian the role as Gandalf... I wonder what Tolkien would have said...
And the fact that the purging of the shire chapters are completely omitted...

I've always wondered what Tolkien would have thought of the movies, and how they differ from the books...

Great picture by the way!
