Description
(I never know where to categorise things... they don't have a category for science-fantasy-steampunk.)I might add colour eventually, but for now I like the way it is too much to change it. I love it when you spend very little time on something and end up pleased with the results anyway. c:

I made the texture from this . They're fun to play with... I like making my own. C: (Sai has so many cool filter options to play with! The different techniques and filters and layer options are some of my favourite things about digital.)

Its really beautiful. The sketchiness adds to the harshness, and the way you colored it (grunge? lol) also adds to it. IMO, Insta-FAVE~

PhantomTeacup In reply to Cinderlyn [2010-05-12 19:26:36 +0000 UTC]
Aww, thanks!
I refined the lines a little because I tend to scribble a lot, but I didn't want to make it too 'clean'. It can be difficult to preserve the motion and character of the original sketch in a cleaner lineart.
It is rather grungy. I only started digital a few months ago so I'm still experimenting a lot with different styles. For this one, grungy texture overload and minimal colour seemed to work best so I went with it.

wha-
oh, hahaha.
I was confused at first because he's not a woman. then... lightning. Actually that didn't cross my mind when I was drawing it, but now that you mention it... xD
I'm going to do Steampunk with Jaqua at some point and I want to make pretty much his entire costume. Probably not the labcoat, but... everything else. The labcoat covers too much of the detail. (but when I start drawing the comic in which this guy appears which is different from the other three or four I've mentioned it will make the art a lot quicker.) I totally didn't draw a reference sheet for his costume.

(I might just have to this year... Masquerade, perhaps? If not, it can be my Hallowe'en costume because I need a really epic one. Hallowe'ens here are amazing - there's a parade and everything.)

๐: 0 โฉ: 1
PhantomTeacup In reply to Translucence [2010-06-02 04:50:52 +0000 UTC]
The pockcoat is its own entity. Attempting both at once would probably kill me. :c
(not to mention it would hide all my fun steampunky costume pieces... and probably be too warm to walk around the con in. I'm not sure I'll wear the pockoat to a con at all; it's more for my personal use than anything else.)
I'm doing a Sparkyboy. IT WILL BE FUNNN.
-MADLAUGHTER-
hmmm.... what colours should I use?

Translucence In reply to PhantomTeacup [2010-06-02 05:25:48 +0000 UTC]
You're a Madboy!
It's the proper derogatory term. : )
There weren't an everwhelming amount of colors and patterns widely available in that era. Nonetheless, I'd avoid the basic browns that everyone goes for. You're gonna be too swank for that boringness. I'd say look for an appropriately period-looking pattern for your waistcoat. For whatever kind of coat/jacket you're doing, I'd go for dark blue because I remember Pride and Prejudice nattering about how that was the fashion. For breeches... I dunno. Whatever colors work with the first two.

PhantomTeacup In reply to Translucence [2010-06-03 01:49:00 +0000 UTC]
I am aware.
The lovely thing about steampunk is that it's still fictional, so if you deviate slightly from historical fashions... As long as the concept as a whole is solid and you're sufficiently epic, no one's going to call you on it. (I wouldn't, at least...)
...Scrap time! 8D (They have scrap metal there as well.)
Just browns would be rather dull.
But hey, it's totally cool if no one else has theirs done. I'll want to keep adding to it anyway.

I certainly hope so... if it isn't I'll refuse to wear it until it is. Because I'm a die-hard costumetard.

PhantomTeacup In reply to Translucence [2010-06-04 05:46:30 +0000 UTC]
depends on whether or not I can find something to mod that catches my eye. I might be able to use a cheap toy weapon... it'd be cool if I could get a light in there. A plastic weapon would work well for that, maybe a water-gun.
