Description
Misa Hayase and The Super Dimension Fortress Macross © Shoji KawamoriI don't care if you liked her with the ginormous curls in the American version. I like this one better.
It was a bit of a challenge to get the retro style on her but I think I got a sufficient amount of it on her. Though I had to get rid of how they drew the ears. The pointy-ness was just too disturbing for me.

Hey, this is great...it looks like a drawing of a real person instead of a cartoonification. Very well done!

Thanks for adding this to the Macross Universe group. I think she looks great! You've got enough of her style to make her obviously recognizable, though I don't know why you call the original the 'American version,' when Robotech used the exact same animation footage as Macross.

The big curls in the American version were pretty annoying, and a character break--if she's a driven, career military woman, she's not going to spend an hour every day curling, pinning, and spraying her hair into that configuration. I like the soft, natural look you have here, and the simple coloring.

I personally like what you have done here, it definitely looks like it came from one of the DYRL cells back in the 80's and looks like something Mikimoto would draw

LOL, you know, I never noticed that Misa didnt have the curls in Do You Remember Love?
And I call myself a Macross fan...

First off, nice drawing. You're doing a great job on emulating that retro style. Ive still never watched any of the Macross stuff, just robotech. Ive heard people say if you like robotech you'll hate macross and if you like macross you'll hate robotech. I get the impression you've seen both. Thoughts?

Well, Robotech came out long before I was born but both of my older brothers are total Robotech fanboys. I recently got to watch the Robotech series and.. man... I mean, it must be nostalgialand for my bros but while I can forgive the art and animation budget, the writing and pacing was just horrible! XD It seems to me like was a horrible result of severe censorship, rewriting and redesigning for something they thought would appeal to their audience more, and their timetable constraints.
I wondered if Robotech had a Japanese version and wondered why I never saw any. I started to dig around youtube for short clips of it. That's when I realized that Robotech was an entirely different production from the original Japanese version.
When I found the SDF Macross movie, it was just too cool. It seemed like an anime that, given their technological limitations back then, surpassed the quality of many of the anime titles of more recent decades.
I don't care much for the latest Macross series though. The art and writing sucks, IMHO.

ah, actually i was a bit too young to catch robotech the first time around as well. But one of my older brothers was into it and had an artbook for it which i still have to this day. I actually think robotech is hilarious to watch in all honesty and a ton of inside jokes have resulted from it. But its one of those things thats just so endearing somehow.

haha! I could relate with that.
The show is pretty hilarious and nostalgic (like I said). I kinda get why my brothers like it so much.
Did you hear they're making a live-action movie of it though? I'm hoping it comes out really good. I'm not sure if the rumors are true but I hear they got Tobey Maguire to play Rick.

i did not hear about that! But after a quick google search apparantly Mcguire is both starring and producing the film. And also check out this quote from another article:
"You know that Robotech movie that you were thinking was going to suck? Well, hang on a minute. Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back, is writing the script for Robotech, which changes the game entirely."
Crazy stuff, i had no idea.
