Well, if you notice, the costume is broken down into layers. It isn't just one suit that I put on, but rather stacked garments (dark blue over light overblue, with the bandages and tabard wrapped over.)
Not attaching it all together makes it easy to put on, and a lot easier to make. This sort of conceptualization can help break down any costume into bite-size chunks you'll feel more comfortable with!
