Description
Task #5 for ... (plus Ayaka crashes this task)What does Ayame (and Ayaka) do in private?
Favorite food: Onigiri. Usually some kind of cooked meat or vegetable covered in sushi rice with a nori wrap.
The way Ayame (and Ayaka) sleeps... since they're Type-D werecats (transform every night), they sleep like cats...
Favorite school subject: Ayame likes literature... particularly the fantasy category (Ayaka's subject is calligraphy)
Team role: Ayame is considered to be in the front line (Ayaka is in the rear line)... this also gives me the excuse to depict them in their samurai/onna-bugeisha armor (though mainly for reenactment purposes)
Music choices from the music of Kiyoshi Yoshida
-"Warriors" www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2DNAo…
-"Mikoshi in Flames" www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xb9SI…
notes:
-If you look at Panel 1 and 2 carefully, which one is Ayame?
-Decided to experiment with Ayame's ponytail a bit to see if I can make it more dynamic...
-The sword Ayame is holding is supposed to be based on the odachi, which is basically a long katana with a longer handle... kinda like somewhere between a sword and polearm...
-Ayaka's outfit is loosely based on the various depictions of Tomoe Gozen...

I was hoping to see them in their samurai armor eventually.

Given the constant presence of her twin, it seems Ayame is never 'In Private'
I often see the Onigiri eaten with relish (sometimes literally ) in anime. Up until now I always assumed it was plain rice.
Ayaka looks particularly cute here, I wonder if she's dreaming of chasing mice... or balls of yarn
I've gotta go with Ayame here. Fantasy literature is probably my favourite genre too. Both to read and to write. Does Ayame try to write her own stories at all?
I know calligraphy seems to come up a lot in school-based anime shows, I've always wondered how important it really is in Japanese society.
I like how you've shown them as a team here rather than fighting each other. Do the two styles compliment or conflict each other in teamwork? As always, wonderful detail and research on the historical armours. Given the heavier armour, I assume Ayaka's role here is primarily defensive?

A local bubble tea place I went to sold onigiri. The stuff they had in side that large triangle-shaped wad of rice was either Spam (luncheon meat), seaweed salad, or baked salmon...
Ayaka might be dreaming that kind of thing...
Ayame might come up with story ideas... but has to get someone else to write something based on her ideas...
I think I can credit the "Shogun: Total War" series for that... There was one troop unit called "Nodachi Samurai" which is all attack but low defense... while the other troop unit "Naginata Samurai" were better at defense...

I could never get away with spam. Strangely enough though I liked tongue or oxtongue sandwiches when I was younger. The baked salmon one sounds nice though.

I like the way you showed various themes here and included both of the sisters together here too! Aww the sleeping poses in their cat forms is super sweet! Oh wow, wonderful job on the armor! Great attention to details and great work with their stances!

Thanks.
Listening to Kiyoshi Yoshida's music, watching "The Last Samurai" along with various gameplay videos of Total War: Shogun 2 gave me a lot of reason to draw the armor...
Also, check out the quirk comic... there's one thing they may have in common...

Oooh, I wounder if they'd want to write their own short story, all in calligraphy of course.
It makes sense one would take the front and the other would hold the rear. Make them an unstoppable team.
I think I'm finally seeing some differences between them too. When you draw their eyes, there's a bit more definition to Ayame's. Like they are rounder. Ayaka's eyes have a bit of a point to them. So in the first panel, Ayaka is on the left and Ayame is on the right....at least, that's my guess.

Ayaka may do that... Ayame would read it... (right now she's reading "The Monkey and the Crab" aka さるかに合戦 Saru Kani Gassen)
Yup, they make a great team.
Good observation there... the eyes are one of the things that help people tell who's who...

That sleeping picture is too precious.
and onigiri is wonderful. Do they like the variety made with canned tuna?

If Ayame is in the front lines she must be very skilled. So who would win in a fight? Ayaka or Ayame?

pheeph In reply to UnaOwens [2019-04-20 01:32:54 +0000 UTC]
Ayame is quite the swordswoman... but she has the mindset of a shock trooper so she tends go all Leeroy Jenkins when going into battle....
For winning a fight, it would be Ayame if the opponent is unprepared for her quick attacks...
For a long, drawn-out battle, that would be Ayaka... she puts more emphasis on defense and counterattacks when there's an opening.

I like how you drew them both together here in different ways!
Has Ayaka and Ayama purposely pretended to be each other?

Outside of looks alone, Ayame might try to imitate Ayaka... Ayaka however has a hard time imitating Ayame...

Very nicely done here! You can see how they have their similarities as well as their differences. You did an excellent job on the last panel with their armor! The attention to detail is impressive.
