Are the dates next to the sword names in the description the time period the sword type originated/lasted until?

Aye, it`s about when these styles were produced (start - till today).

Awesome! I'm a huge sword fan, especially for Asian swords, so I appreciate all the stock you did for samurai.

The Katana is the king of swords . outclasses the longsword and darb by a mile

Hihi

Sorry... but I have to disagree... influenced by media I also started my passion for swords 11 years ago with the Katana...

But honestly... after many many years of practice: There is really no single point in which I would use a Katana instead of a Longsword.

The Katana is just "a hard blade and a tip" and nothing else...

The Longsword is a 3D-Weapon... the steel is flexible, it is longer, it has a pommel, the cross (2 ends), two blades, the tip - and the cross in second funtion as defense-weapon... that makes 7 different weapons in my hand - simultaneous.

Besides... have a look at this documentation: [link]

I would have more reservation about pronouncing one sword "king" just like that. Each of these swords was made in different environments and as such for different purposes. That link shows only one aspect of many that you need to consider, and at some point you'll get to where you're just comparing fighting styles and the imaginary people matched up from each place as the most important factors, not so much the tools of war they happen to be using. (That being said I've seen most people agree that a Samaria and a knight pitted against each other lean in favor of the knight.)

It`s an unfinished Banner of our Reenactment Group: [link] (Brabant)

Actually I was asking for the name of the design. Like how the Romans were known for their vexillum.

Oh... hm... it`s just a typical european banner design like you find it in every castle. Sure there will be a special name for the three endings underneath... but I can`t find any information about that, sorry.

Aye, thank you.

Well, I only have Eyes for Longswords... but you need to test the rest to know what`s best.

As I read once: "when someone ask me: 'which is the best weapon?', I answer with another question: best for what?"
