Here is:
Glamdring
Glamdring Scabbard
Narsil

That's some beautiful weaponry.Β
Are some of those from Darksword Armory? If so, that would make this collection twice as cool. Fantastical, yet functional

Hey! Can you do me a huge favor and send me the dimensions of Hadfang and Legolas' fighting knives? Β They're impossibly hard to get your hands on now'a'days, and I'd get more from them if I made them myself.

Hey
I've been thinking about getting United Cutlery's Sting replica. It looks great in your pic, is it worth getting? I've seen it on a site for around Β£110. It'll be quite a bit of money for me, so I just want to check that it'll be worth it! Also, someone said on a Youtube reveiw that they had noticed some slight scratches on theirs which they thought was to do with the scabbard. Have you had any issues with it?

Β£110 is quite a bit of money to me too.
I think it's worth the money. It's a beautiful thing, iconic, and a keeper.
You do know the scabbard is sold seperately, right?
If you're in the UK try www.blades-uk.com
You have to be careful with the blade on the metal collar of the scabbard, but other than that I haven't had any problems with it.

ok thank you Looks like I'll get it!
I did look at Blades-uk but I found this site [link] which is a little cheaper.
Thanks again!

Do you know of anyone making fuctional swords based on Lord of the Rings models?
I know that the swords used in the films must have had properly tempered, high carbon steel doubles in order to pull off some of the moves in the film which would have shattered or bent a stainless steel or aluminium sword, so I would think that somebody as the knowhow. If there are any for sale though is an entirely diferent matter...

phantomphreaq In reply to Cetaceaphile [2011-12-14 18:52:24 +0000 UTC]
Yeah in the films they made real carbon and spring steel blades, which they dubbed 'The Hero Swords', they were full weight and perfectly balanced. Viggo Mortensen actually prefered to use the hero sword because he said he wanted to show the energy and fatigue you get from using real swords in battle.
You could try googeling it. I KNOW there are some armourers in America that make replica film swords and armour that are the real deal. I've seen a Hadhafang and and a few others, including Legolas' Mirkwood Bow, along with armour such as Nazgul gauntlets and Gondor/Rohirrim leather vambraces and greves.
You'll just have to look around. I'm guessing they would be fabricated to order and you'd have to pay a LOT of money to acquire one.

Anduril,Flame of the West. Forged from the shards of Narsil, the Sword of Elendil.

As Strider his sword is literally just called 'Sword of Strider'
The other sword he uses is the re-forged Narsil (second from left in the photo) and is renamed 'Anduril'- Flame of the West.

Wow. That is amazing! I love LotR and medieval weapons, but, wouldn't the elven warrior sword be a bit impractical with such a long handle? I love your collection.
π: 0 β©: 1
phantomphreaq In reply to bluebunny7 [2011-12-01 23:47:59 +0000 UTC]
I've no idea lol I'm a short guy so it's DEFINITLEY impractical in my hands lol Boromir's or Theoden's is definatley more my size.
The Elves are a very tall race, so I assume it is easier for them to weild. They certainly have no porblem with them in the fellowship prologue battle, or at Helm's Deep

I've seen a LOT of poor Sting replicas before, but I must say the one you've gotten is simply amazing.
How much did you pay for that particular piece, if that's not asking too much?
π: 0 β©: 1
phantomphreaq In reply to Hyeo [2011-11-29 07:54:44 +0000 UTC]
I think for the Sting sword it was Β£120, and for the Scabbard it was about Β£50.
Yeah so about Β£170 ($260) for the complete thing.
Most of these were bought on eBay. If you want to search for any of these just type in
'United Cutlery LOTR'
And any that are for sale will come up

Hyeo In reply to phantomphreaq [2011-11-29 08:09:54 +0000 UTC]
Thanks
That does seem to be a bit higher than the others I've seen, that likely explains the quality differences lol
π: 0 β©: 1
phantomphreaq In reply to Hyeo [2011-11-29 18:26:58 +0000 UTC]
Well as I said, these are cast from the original props, and all come with certificates of authenticity. They're about as real as you can get without actually robbing WETA themselves lol
But yeah, it's so worth waiting that extra time and paying the more for these. I started out buying cheap, indian fakes. But then I got Theoden's sword for just Β£50 brand new (the best bargain in the whole collection) and immediately you can notice the quality difference in the size, feel and weight of them.
There are some VERY good fakes out there. The best one I had was Arwen's sword. I had a fake, and then I bought the official one and there really was hardly any difference in them at all except the real one was slightly heavier

Although this collection isn't quite finished. I won't buy EVERY LOTR replica, but I am still missing Anduril.
I will not consider this collection complete without it

The weapons themselves were between Β£100-Β£180 each, the scabbards are sold seperately and were about Β£80-Β£100 each.

Not at all. These were bought through hard work, saving, perseverance and cleaver buying
It's taken many years to aquire these. 90% of my collection was bought second hand, on eBay. I have NEVER paid full price for any of my weapons. They have always been the best a can buy with the money a had at the time.
