Description
An almost tear jerking scene from ROTK where Eomer, whilst walking through the fallen Rohirrim in aftermath of the battle of Pelennor Fields, discovers his sister amongst the bodies.Even more shocking for him as he thought Eowyn was left back in camp.
Just a quick 'scribble' sketch this one. Took just over an hour. 3 colours used.

I really love how you've totally captured the emotion without actually showing their faces, which we usually see as the primary source of visible emotion. Well done

It's an absolute testament to Karl Urban's acting ability, the emotion he conveyed in this one short scene. That scream of anguish still haunts me, and even though I know she didn't/doesn't die, I choke/choked up regardless. You've captured it bloody well for a quick scribble!

This would have been probably one of the most moving scenes if it had made in to RoTK. Beautifully done!

I saw the extended edition first. When I saw the theatrical, the fact this scene wasn't in it was almost as heartbreaking as the scene itself. He acted this out so perfectly it was heart-wrenching

Excellent work! Even though we cannot see his face, you've captured Eomer's emotions very well in his body language (a difficult thing to do, IMO). An impressive drawing of one of my favorite scenes.

Thanks alot. It was fun to do, and real quick to do aswell. About an hour. It's just scribbled down, but for some reason has become my most popular piece of work.

That is a brilliant sketch. I was always impressed by how such a small and minimal a scene was could hold such raw emotion. You really did portray that here.

Thanks alot. It really is a great scene. Shows the warrior Eomer in a new light as he grievs for his fallen sister. Ive never seen this scene drawn before, I think I may be the only one to have done it.

Exactly. We always see Eomer as a sturdy example of a man, whose emotions are buried for the sake of effiency in battle, but this shows what makes him a good man and not just a good soldier. I haven't ever seen another artist give their own rendition of the scene.

THIS took just over an HOUR??? Holy crap, this would have taken me DAYS!! And it wouldn't be anywhere near this good! This is one of my favourite scenes from RotK...Eomer's screams are so heartfelt...it sounds like his heart just got torn from his chest. And you captured this all perfectly...the tenderness of which Eomer holds his beloved sister. Great, great work! Faved!

Thanks!
Its easy to lay down quickly. The shapes of Eomer and Eowyn are very blocky, so its quick to sketch in. Lay down a terracotta first, overlay with dark brown in the darker areas and then finally black for shadow and depth. There's very little or no detail in this sketch it's quick just to scribble in.
The fore and background again is just freehand scribbled in to give the impression of the battlefield.
Impression is the key in these sketches. Why waste time drawing minute detail when just a quick impression to show what it's ment to be will do? Like Eowyn's chainmaille on her arm and skirt.
Thats why it only took an hour lol
Many thanks again.

She did not die in the book either. For movie purposes she passed out on Theoden's body after he died and Eomer found her after the battle. In the book something similar happened, although it's been so long since I read ROTK I couldn't tell you exactly.
