Yeah, I got super excited about the new Dire Wolf DNA paper too.For those that somehow missed it, even though their skeletal morphology looked just like grey wolves, genetically they were really, really different. Far more different than Wolves are from African Wild Dogs even. No longer Canis Dirus they are now back in its original genus, Aenocyon.
This was a super big surprise.
Scientists speculated that they may have had a reddish coat and rounded ears, so that's what I went with.
