Description
The alpha wolf , top dog, leader of the pack! or nice wolf! nice wolf! to you..Β ΒWell this is my attempt at an alpha wolf anyway, this is the 3rd wolf I've drawn now in my amateur art career but the first on black paper! (I seem to be in a black paper phase at the moment!). I used the usual implements, colour and pastel pencils on A3 size black paper. My scanner had a fit scanning this drawing so I ended up cropping the image more than I wanted, but as its a simple drawing I suppose it doesn't matter really. I used a reference from a legal journal from work, the photo lacked detail but the pose was very inspiring so used it as a guide (no idea who took the photo)
Added some snow as a last minute decision with gimp to add a bit of atmosphere, but may remove it later, will see how it goes.

It's head is lowered, try making its head a bit higher and it's tail raised. The alpha is the nost dominant, it looks to me as if it's lowering its head, asking for advice. No offense though nice drawing!

Yes I know what you mean, I did raise the tail up more from the reference, I just liked the way the wolf was posing. Cheers

It still looks great no matter what pose it's in! Except for if you drew it dead :/

I really admire your skills with black paper and pastel pencils. Every piece you create is very expressive and has a great atmosphere.
The eyes stand out and the fur is very realistic! Nop its not just my inner wolf thats speaking ( <- loves wolfes) its a great piece.

Hurrah! I did enjoy doing it, glad you like it. I probably should of drawn a few more wolves behind him to emphasise his prominence as pack leader but well, I got a bit lazy.

If I saw this I'd be backing up and probably saying "nice wolf!", you're right!
Wolves get a bad press and are always portrayed as baddies in films (as well as snakes and spiders).
Wolves are franticly loyal to their pack, the alpha male and female are literally top dogs. But you already know this of course.
Seeing a wolf (an alpha) this close and this alert would probably be the last thing you'd ever see. Wolves are fantastic killers!
We UK people feared and respected wolves equally in years gone by, until we eradicated them from the British Isles, but they are still here, as our dogs!
The poise and muscle in your image are perfect. Fur is as it would be and the light scattering and diffusion in the fur and snow is spot on.
Awhoooooooooooooooooooo! Sorry, got carried away.....

A fine comment, that's made my day good Sir. Yes wolves still have a hard time, seems its still a shoot all the wolves you can see mindset in the US of A still... a crying shame.. wolves will always find some way to survive though, but its getting harder..Β Β

They probably would. They've been chasing wild turkeys lately but I think your wolf would capture the turkey first
