Hey, nice to see you again! (remember me from the last critique?)
Wow! This definitely captured my attention! Such a wonderful idea and very creative designs! I love the black and white shades and how it does well to bring out the beautiful yellow flowers in the field! your attention to detail is also very superb! the rabbits' hairs and grass were very well done! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l⦠" width="26" height="17" alt="

Nothing much to be a "critique" on, but i feel like the picture does not have a strong light source. Where is it coming from? Sometimes the rocks cast huge shadows also.
Overall, this is brilliant! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h⦠" width="45" height="20" alt="

Hey Jasmin hows it going? Thank you for taking the time to critique I just would say these are hares and not rabbits, hares are a fair bit larger than rabbits with larger ears and much more powerful legs ( they are very fast!) the sky was drawn overcast and slightly cloudy so felt no stone shadows were needed, but maybe as you say stones casting shadows would of been nicer (maybe next time) thanks again!

(pffft I don't know much difference with hares and rabbits) I know hares are stronger, sorry I didn't catch that! XD lol

Aw really nice! I love how you sketched and shaded the ruffled fur, and the little nicks in the hare's ear, plus the touches of yellow on the daffodils is a nice addition to highlight spring

Thank you kindly! yes this hare is a little battered and scruffy! maybe its gone through a few too many hedges backwards perhaps?

You're welcome!
He's got character that's all XD escaping boxing matches by reversing into conveniently placed hedgerows to bide his time and wait until all the other hares are tired out, he's got the glint of true cunning in his harely eye

Quite a mysterious feel to all of this, makes you really wonder what the hares are thinking. The yellow daffodils are a nice touch.

Thank you yes indeed it does seem mysterious to me now too, I had drawn a hidden hare in the middle stone, but now when I look at it all I see is an old man's face haha! Could just me me thinking that though

Kuume In reply to PhilipHarvey [2013-12-17 23:39:44 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I missed the hidden hare! What a delightful detail, something rewarding the more patient viewer. It looks like a sacred stone. If you look a bit lower I guess you can see an old man's face too. Pattern recognition can be a mysterious thing. It feels great looking at this piece now in the middle of winter...

Aah! I found the fifth hare! Very clever hiding spot.
I love your technique--it's realistic, but with that nice artistic sketchiness that makes art fun to look at. The splashes of yellow are great--like spring poking through winter.
Excellent work!

Another great concept.
The splashes of colour in your b/w work is becoming a trademark for you, although other artists do that too you have logical reasons for doing so. You say βDaffodilβ to someone and they say βyellowβ.
Love the eyes on the closest hare, the eyes are vital on living things, yours are perfect and believable.
And the theme? Ahhh, we really do need that springtime feel at the moment!

After seeing this piece and seeing just how far you have progressed in the last year has been exciting for me. Have no doubts you most definitely have a talent PJH Your art style reminds me very much in some ways of graphic novel storyboarding in the way it speaks a strong narrative without a need for exposition and I personally would love to see you do a few sequential pieces that give a snapshot of a story, a graphic novella if you will. Regardless I cannot wait to see what you do next and I sincerely hope that you pursue your gift and take it to your personal zenith. Great detail and distinctively good taste wrapped in elegant charm

Good taste and elegant charm that's me haha! Well its good to know you see improvement in my artistic efforts, not sure about graphic novels, I need a whole new skill set for that which I don't think I have yet. As for what's next well I'm trying to work out how to do undersea narwhals with my fancy new colour pencils (early days)

Brilliant as ever Harvsky! Just out of curiosity how long do you spend on average per piece? Would love to see some more wolves in the future or perhaps a Fenrir to throw into the mix with Hugin and Munin!
You have a very special gift for drawing the creatures of the World and there is a subtle thread of Nordic/Viking and somewhat Pagan mythology and sensuality throughout your pieces. What I particularly love is how all of your creatures seem to convey so much independent and varied personality between each other, combined with the sense of motion and story that your art expresses with tasteful and unobtrusive use of colour creates very enjoyable traditional works that give a deep sense of peace. Cannot wait to see what you do in the future! Personally I would love to see a nightscape with wolves on the hunt! I think that would test your grayscale ability!!
Once again though thankyou for resuming with artwork after a gap of so many years.

Thank you very much Sp4c39h0st! as for the time taken I'm really not sure, never time myself, a good few hours I would say and it depends on what shift I'm working (I enjoy drawing late at night). This drawing came together quite quickly once the initial foreground hare was finished, usually get a few ideas on the way which can change the direction of the drawing and its feel. I have lots of ideas on the go and yes Fenrir is on my to do list Thank you for the kind and thoughtful comment.

This is a great drawing. I like it.
As for the 5th hare... Is it on middle rock? I think I see there its tail, bottom and ears lying on hare's back...

I think it isn't too obvious, but that's just me. Others might have seen it during first few seconds of watching this drawing.
By the way... On the right rock (on its top part) I see something resembling an eye.

You have the talent of Albrecht DΓΌrer,my friend, all the easter bunny,s looks so detailed in the drawing, and the scene have a lot of spring mythos in the prehistoric stone,s.And of course the colorful easter bell flowers gives a modern contrast to the classic scene.
