Description Sunday , September 28th.

Went to Adraga beach, Sintra-Portugal.

Me, and have been on this location yesterday to shoot some waterscape photos [link] It´s a beach located on the East coast of Portugal, filled with beautiful rock formations. I´ve lost my favorite sandals yesterday when I was trying to climb a rock to achieve a best angle to photograph. And when I got home I didn´t like the results, and decided to go back there, at least to compensate the loss of my left foot sandal Here´s a pic of our yesterday photosession [link]

I first left my tripod in the towel. Wanted to find a good place and angle to shoot, at it´s easier to do without any material at my back.

The sky was just perfect, heavy and dark clouds above, leaving an opening at the bottom so the sun could say goodbye, with is oranges and yellows.

The sea was calm, letting me to approach the water without much fear to get my self and my camera wet. Everything was perfect, just waiting for me to "push the button".

After mounting my tripod, I used a Cokin GND 4 handheld because at 10mm the filter holder can be seen on the picture, and I normally use 12 to 13mm focal range to crop it. But in this one I wanted the full wide angle. As I continue to say, gradient filters are scape photographers bestfriends, here´s a pic I took just to show you how they work [link]

Didn´t use a shutter cable on this one, so the image is not perfectly focused on some areas.

The shutter speed selected was ideal to capture the water motion, but not enough to turn it into a mist, or fog that long exposures normally do.

Post-Processing:
I shoot this one on normal jpeg.
Used PSCS2 to desaturate the tones a bit creating a more dramatical feeling to it.
Used levels, contrast, unsharp mask, noise reduction and watermark tittle.

P.S.: In the end of the day, I was trying a photo with a very low angle... and I was surprised by this: [link] you can easily imagine what happened a second after

Hope you like this one. Cheers.

This is what I love about DA. Your at someones gallery and you check out their favs. because you think they are great and you are bound to find some other great artists there. You see a thumb that looks kind of nice but your not really sure, because it is so small. So you click the thumb and BAM!!! your eyes are treated with a great shot. The kind that makes your jaw drop and a wow goes through your brain. This is one of those shots. Truly great work!

Lovely work Filipe, nice dark mood.
The shutter is really nicely timed, I like the movement of the water and the sky is great.

I've been to Adraga a couple of times to shoot (although I usually go to the other side of the beach) but I've not managed to get a shot that I'm really happy with yet. It's on my list though, somewhere I'll be going back to

There were great skies this weekend...I was shooting in Monte Clerrigo (Costa Vicentina) and the conditions were great. Hopefully we'll be getting plenty more skies like these

Lovely work as always mate, have a good week.

Andy

Thanks mate! Indeed there were.. The best time of year for landscape photography is near.. And Nature is presenting us with this awesome skies. There is no excuse to stay home at weekends.. just grab that warm clothes and something to protect our cameras and there we go! Did you manage to select any photo of Monte Clerigo to upload here? I don´t know that part of Portugal .. yet

Thanks again for the support.

P.S.: I still remember the tag you gave me on your journal but unfortunately I only have free time to say thanks to some comments and browsing a little my friends updated galleries. I´ll try do do something on the next weekend

AndyMumford In reply to PhilipMatthews [2008-09-30 15:05:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm happy that we're getting to a good time of year for photography....This weekend was certainly nice.

I've got around 3 or 4 shots from the Monte Clerigo session that I'm happy with, but I won't be submitting them for at least a month as I have a couple of other shots I want to submit first, as well as a calendar.

You should visit Costa Vicentina, I think it's the best coastline in Portugal. Monte Clerigo, Vale da Figuera [link] and Castelejo [link] are greast beaches. You can see from the photos though that I haven't had good conditions when I've visited them, so I need to go back and shoot them again.
Fortunately, I'll be living really near there soon so I'll have the rest of my life to shoot these places
