Description It's another comic for my sister Holly. My older sister Kate is in this one too. Can you tell which is which? Doesn't make much difference either way.

In the first panel, you were the first girl, next was Holly in the middle, and then Kate at the right?

I like to think I'm a fast runner, but I think it had more to do with the fact that I really didn't want to miss that bus.

What exactly is "a toffee?"

I ask, because this is one of those little American English/British English differences.

Is it literally toffee, or is it a generic term for any piece of candy?

I work with a Londoner, and I laugh anytime he says "fancy dress party."

*tee hee

toffee is the same as taffy I think. It's not a generic term, if someone offers you a toffee, you're getting a toffee.

I thought I'd watched enough episodes of 'Friends' to know what all the American English/English differences were, but new ones keep turning up and they always surprise me.

In America, toffee and taffy are very different, despite the fact that the were once one and the same.

Toffee is more of a flavor, whereas taffy is a kind of chewy candy. Taffy could be fruit-flavored, but toffee can only be toffee-flavored.

Oop here in the northern lands they sometimes use toffees generically and it irritates me greatly.

THEY'RE SWEETS! Gah!

Oh dear! How confusing for everyone involved. A toffee should be a toffee and nothing else! Unless it's a toffee apple I suppose.
