INTRO: Some friends were interested when I proposed to design a tutorial for drawing hands. In my opinion, they can be more difficult to do than a portrait.

I have used graphite and charcoal pencils.

What is tricky about hands is that they seem more easy than they are, but in fact, they are very complex! To have a good insight hand anatomy, you could check [link] Let say that you use your own as a model, just in front of you. I decide first on a pose, then I put pencil marks next to my finger tips where they sit on the paper, so I can get back to the same pose.

The first step is to outline the hand, as if it is a glove, without detail as possible, and with a light pencil (you may have to erase from time to time to get the right proportions).
