To be fair Kirby is actually the most powerful Nintendo hero since he constantly face universal and other cosmic threats in almost every game. Compared to the other characters.

My take is the fact that Kirby's warp star was the only one that seemed like it had the chance of escaping the universe in time.
Sonic's speed could've outrun it, though whether he would have escaped the whole universe being swallowed I'm not sure.
I'm pretty sure some of the other characters might have some dimension hopping ability, but I'm not sure.
