i have been so nervous, so anxious, and just plain afraid to upload any serious art regarding my own characters and creations. so many people have blatantly ripped off character traits/entire characters from me and defended it by saying they were only mimicking my style. i should be able to just keep my chin up and walking but i am loathing my weak personality because it actually affects me so much.that is why there are so many little ugly watermarks on this. sorry about that. i've just been so uncomfortable and have been too paranoid otherwise. the only reason i'm uploading this is because i am genuinely proud of myself over this drawing. all of his bag items were super new for me and were great practice. i might be doing more things like this for other characters.
this is a character i designed several weeks ago. he's a traveler who bundles himself up completely. he is a part of a race/species i designed a while ago that i have had in my head for about a year.
they cover their tails with flowers and cover up their entire bodies. their tails come in varying shapes, sizes, and appearances.
this guy is very rare and has these eyes at the tip of his tail. as such he has witnessed and experienced too many scary things that have traumatized him and broken any sense of trust.
he trades and barters for a living and is pretty well off considering. he's always alone and always carries his little dagger in a easily accessible area on his person. he is not very trusting of people and will always find ways to avoid large groups of people. he's always on the move and doesn't really stay in one area for too long. he cannot swim but he can climb super well.

It was a lot of fun to read your description of this guy. World-building and character designing is something I am very fond of, and I always find it very fascinating and fun to read other people's, since it's their imaginations/creativity at work. So cool, ahh. -stares off into distance at memories of some great ones- I also really like how you laid the sheet out, it looks so nicely set up. The guy looks really cool and awesome as well, ahh. uvu
It is a shame to hear that you have to feel that sort of dreadful anxiety at all though. -hugs-
As Pieology said, there's a line between being inspired and being a thief, and while it would be really nice if people realize the difference, DA is indeed full of young people/jerks who do not realize the wrongfulness of their actions. -sighs- Thank you for deigning to share this character of yours with the public in light of that fear, he's really splendid.

Gosh when I just see that kind of stuff happen, I can't help but cringe at it... I don't think it's fair at all, and I'm so sorry it happens to you so often. ;; There's a line between being inspired and just copying for profit or self gain, I really wish some had a bit more respect for an artist, or at least would give credit where it is due.
That aside, I really love all the little details you paid attention to on the objects he owns, it's so beautifully done! Details and designs of his clothes, especially those buttons. (And that scarf of course) The colors are very gentle and well worked together, and the color scheme has a very nice earthy feel to it. *u* Finally I love his story so far and just the idea of how the race covers themselves up in general~
It's a real shame some people find being creative too much work, but just know that the work you put into your designs and ideas are absolutely worth it and can be appreciated a whole lot more than the copycats who try to fake it.

very sad because it happens so often with so many people and it's plainly obvious when you see it happen? just plain rude and dickish and it shouldn't be happening in the first place really. and even with credit, if you can see blatant similarities you should ask the artist before claiming it as your "original creation" or "original style"??? friends and friends of friends have been traced and copied design/art wise and its plainly obvious but no credit was ever given? they just kinda kept selling their designs and near tracing images/characters. super super shady stuff
but ah thanks so much pie, i was super proud of this character and i'm glad the colors make him look gentle haha. he's a fairly soft character and i just couldn't stop myself from adding those pinks and browns :3c he actually went through like 5 color revisions until i decided to indulge myself paha

ahhhh i'm still hesitant about this species. i've already designed 4 of them and all and drawn more of this guy but i'm still struggling with my anxiety over it? deviantart is a scary place to try and creatively spread yourself out. younger people tend to pick and choose things they like and claim it as their own without a shred of credit. i've seen it happen a ton, not just with myself but other artists? and then they blame it on it being their "style" or that the creator is too "defensive" and it's just very rude, unprofessional, and all around makes them look like a jackass.
so it's kind of hard with what i've already seen going on to want to upload new creative creatures/designs that i'm super proud of? i'm not sure if that entirely makes sense. it's like i have a constant dread in the pit of my stomach.

wow??? yeah i really understand , .. IVE NEVER created anything worthwhile tbh but ive seen so many things be stolen all the time and its like? ? ? not only is that really unoriginal and boring and unhelpful for your own creativity/art progress it's like. a lot of these kids don't understand that the "popular" people they're stealing from are still people and are really hurt at being blatantly ripped off of 8/// but instead of trying to grow up or take responsibility for being caught they just get a bunch of their equally respectful friends and gang up on artists who're trying to stand up for themselves and make themselves out to be the victims of """the evil deviantart famous artists"""
and basically mock the shit out of anybody who tries to keep something original to themselves. im so tired of the "YOU CANT COPYRIGHT ANYTHING/ORIGINAL SPECIES R STUPID & SELFISH/YOU CANT OWN A STYLE ITS FREE FOR EVERYONE TO USE" mentality thats been everywhere on dA lately its just so obnoxious and rude
like just because copying happens a lot doesn't make it ok but like always people have no common sense or courtesy ...

I love seeing the little tiny bits of items you draw for your characters and worlds, the concept of them is interesting. Like the fruit you made for the Mantibab world. ;o; It looked so legit and tasty.

concept building, world building, character building, etc is what i LIVE FOR. usually i don't manage to draw everything down on paper/digital canvas and usually store everything in my head but wow actually getting to see stuff fleshed out like this is something i always love to see ;;

i'm a little on the fence about sharing more of him. i'v'e created a completely different outfit and drawn his markings/body underneath the clothes? but i'm still extremely hesitant about sharing :c
