Description
Time for some EMOTE SCIENCE! (shame Smarty isn't around to help us out...)This here is...er...an Atomote. I can't think of a better name (yet) BUT IT'LL DO. When viewed under a microscope, we can observe that it has four major constituent parts:
- The Nucleus, which keeps everything in balance.
- Three Emotrons. The yellow one represents positivity, the blue represents negativity, and the red controls something we're referring to as "heat".
The Emotrons are used to generate a particular emotion in an emoticon. Try saying that three times quickly. "Heat" seems to work by modifying the current emotion - so, if negativity is high and heat is also high, that'll translate into anger; for positivity this would be more like euphoria. Further study is required to learn the exact nature of this phenomenon - our best scientists are all over it, rest assured.

This took much longer to animate than I thought. First, I just tried moving each emote individually by hand, then realised that my grasp of physics isn't quite good enough to make that work. So I thought I'd be clever and throw together a program in Game Maker Studio to animate it for me.
Actually converting that to a GIF and making it loop sensibly without looking too terrible was another question entirely. I managed to do it, though, and I think it looks reasonably good!

Many thanks to the wonderful Sinister-Starfeesh for providing this tutorial on shading big emotes.

I'm glad you do, 'cause getting them to loop correctly was a right old pain.
