Description
The title of Dragon Lord can be obtained of two ways: obtaining the bloodstone scepter or if one were so confident or inclined, to challenge the current dragon lord and defeat them in battle. The second option was not good news for newly appointed Dragon Lord Ember.

After Spike left, Ember was quickly reminded of dragon customs and how much they suck if you aren't the brawniest muscle head there is. The more challengers that came her way, the more she knew she had to work to keep her position. She spent nearly every waking moment either working out to build strength or asserting dominance over her subjects by stealing their treasures and food or just by beating them up. The stream of dragons wanting to challenge her steadily grew slower and slower.

As Dragon Lord, it is Ember's responsibility to prevent the Lands they live from being overtaken and to step in if any unnecessary fighting occurs and spins out tof control. As Equestria expands Westward, it also becomes her job to ward off pony poachers and dragnoslayers.
Ember does a fine job, being Lord. Many would say she's a better ruler than her father, but they don't, because dragons don't do praise. Troch had been a tyrant of a Lord and most dragons found themselves terrified and/or starving in their Lands. Partially because of his sheer size and how much he ate on a daily basis. Most were not legitemately sad when he gavev up the "throne". Because he was so massive and powerful, he had no challengers, and holding the Gauntlet of For meant he was dying and didn't want any random sod finding his giant corpse someplace and stealing the scepter.

He also did not want Ember to win. But only becasue she was one of the weakest of his offspring. He, being a very very old Lord, had had many mates and many many children. Ember probably his youngest child. Besides that he only keeps her around because her mother died, even then he doesn't care for her, per se. She was malnourished for a time when she was all alone and despereately desires affection, even though she knows her father sees emotion (aside from anger) as weak. Pair his neglect with how old he was when he sired her, she was not set up to be a strong and successful dragon in general. But here she is.

She found immense pride and pleasure in using the power of the bloodstone scepter to prevent her father from reclaiming his title and eliminating her. He was not happy that she won. in his anger and disappointment he trudged off and died on his way to the souther shores of their Lands.
