Description Next up is the amiga classic, the frustratingly vague Shadow of the Beast by Psygnosis. This game displayed a level of artistry never seen before in a game, too bad the gameplay didn't have as much attention put into it.

Wanted to put more emphasis on the eerie landscape than on Aarbron. And of course, I had to stick the blimp in there as well.

Have a few more ideas in mind, so stay tuned!

It would be awesome if you made a Shadow of the Beast comic!

That would be fun, something along the lines of Moebius comic would work very well!

And a little bit of Richard Corben!

Go for it! A comic book re-telling of the games would be great!
I would love to see the original trilogy's universe explored more.

Not sure I have time to do anything of real substantial length, but I may do a short comic sometime! Thanks for the idea!

You're welcome!
Just work on it in your spare time if you want a full length comic

In the words of Rob Schneider's character in Little Nicky "You can do it!"
You could start off with the short comic first. Then We'll all see where it goes.
The thing is I can't get enough Shadow of the Beast fan art and there isn't enough on the internet.
I draw a lot of SOTB fan art myself. But I registered on Deviant Art in order to look at the mature content. And my art is mediocre at best.

Yeah, I'll definitely try out the short comic first, see how much I enjoy making it.

I mentioned Moebius earlier, have you ever seen any of his comics? I highly suggest looking at his 'Arzach' comics, they seem very inspirational and influential to SOTB.Β

Haha, just keep drawing as often as possible, its the best way to get better!

I found a cool SOTB Fangame with shades of the game Limbo in it being developed.

I'm still looking forward to the comic!

Awesome, I'll check it out!

Super busy, but I was able to knock out a rough sketch of the entire comic. I think I told you my idea, right? Basically think of a camera zoomed in at the very end of the game, and the comic progresses as the camera continually zooms out.Β

I got two things to ask you.
1:What ideas have you come up with for the comic beside the Richard Corben and Moebius art style? I'm still looking forward to the comic!
2:What do you think of that game demo I sent you? I enjoyed it!

Phobos-Romulus In reply to MegaJeff1989 [2015-10-01 17:04:04 +0000 UTC]

1. The comic will be not necessarily in their art style, but more their dialogue-less storytelling. I was thinking of a comic starting out zoomed in on Maletoth's foot(at the very end of the game), then the 'camera' continually panning backwards as more and more monsters pass by, until we finally see Aarbron, who clenches his fist and starts to run towards them. A very short, probably 2-3 page comic with no words.Β

Haven't gotten a chance to play it yet, I work on a Mac, so I don't pull out my windows very often.Β

2.Be sure to fund the game on Kickstarter!

The kickstarter page has not been set up yet, but here's a link to a Youtube trailer.

That zeppelin. OH GOD WHY A ZEPPELIN. I've never played SOTB but a friend used to show me videos, we laugh at how random it is and we love the atmosphere. The original artworks are amazing btw!

Ha,, I always thought the zeppelin was a cool odd touch.

Yeah, the gameplay for the game is so odd and random, the whole thing is trial and error.

Thanks man!

Shadow of the Beast is perhaps unmatched in terms of artistry on a game. That game's visuals are quite unique even today.

Phobos-Romulus In reply to gema-h [2013-05-23 23:04:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I know. Today's 3d games will never beat the artistry found in the pixelated games of years past.

Had quite a unique art direction, that's for sure.
