Description
Samus, in nearly all of her zero suit ending depictions. I'll be the first to say that while the Zero Suit is fine, it pales in comparison to the Samuses of old.Related content

Yeah. They need to get rid of the Zero Suit, and fast.

Still good though.

Thanks!

What, the Zero Suit?

Phobos-Romulus In reply to vevans0009 [2017-07-15 22:09:13 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, sorta, the other costumes are brief fanservice reserved for the end of their respective games, while the Zero Suit is a significant segment of Zero Mission and is practically a featureless nude body painted blue, haha. So I guess it depends on how you look at it.Β

Never see that. Β Its just a jumpsuit. Β If it shows no nipples or skin, then its okay for the general audience.

I always did. For a jump suit, it looks too much like vacuformed to every crease and contour of Samus' body. I don't mind sexualized characters if that's in line with the characters' personality, but the Zero Suit seems a bit too far in that direction for a character who never really had that be a dominant trait of her personality.
Here's a quote from ItalianΒ comic artist Milo Manara, that kinda sums up how I think about the suit's design.
"Thatβs the way Superheroes are: they are naked, covered in whatever color of paint. Superman is naked painted blue, Spider-Man is naked painted red and blue, and Spider-Woman is painted red. But thatβs part of the βtrickβ, so to speak, that publishers use to create these forms of superheroes nude β of which I do not find anything wrong β but without real nudity."

Just as tight as a gymnast or dancer outfit. Β I have seen outfits much tighter that you can see camel toe and tits. Β Samus zero suit is kid-friendly compared to what I have seen. XD

Of course, comparatively yes, it's rather innocent. An outfit tight enough to adhere to the contours that tightly should compress the breasts more, but the Zero Suit is very tight and the breasts seem to look as if nothing is covering or restraining them(not that the bounce and flop around everywhere), so you know that the outfit was designed to be titillating and not much else. All in all, I'm just saying within Metroid's more robust and cold aesthetic, and considering Samus' personality and feel, I don't think the Zero Suit is a very fitting or good design. I have nothing in particular against sexualized designs, they just have to make sense for a given character.Β
It might also have to do with the way her hair is dolled up and the fact that she appears to be wearing lipstick.

Ha, they're brief bits that are explicitly labeled as fanservice reward. While the zero suit feels equally fanservicey, it's an important part of the game. In other words, I would never want to control or play as Samus wearing only a bikini or tank top and panties, haha.Β

As far as two-dimensional games go, I would have to agree: *if* not THE best, then definitely in the Mount Olympus of classic video games. Technical merits aside, it's aesthetics plus level design influenced quite a few game series after it (Akumajo Dracula/Castlevania being THE major example!).
Regardless of the above, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Super Metroid because my cousin purchased it along with my first video game console (the Super Nintendo, of course) for my birthday after I moved back to Oregon.

Your piece achieves the feat of not only standing on it's own apart from Nintendo's artists, but also keenly invoking the spirit of each Samus' era. Kudos to you.

2D games will always beat out 3D games, at least for me.
I love how the game tells a story through the environment and graphics, rather than exhaustive cutscenes or exposition.
I'll always have a soft spot for the SNES as well, never had a console growing up, but I spent every week playing Street Fighter 2 at my cousins house.Β
Thanks very much man, really appreciate the support!

P.S. It just hit me: another band-aid. Is this a minor running-gag, subtle indicator of Samus' rough-and-tumble nature, a bit of both, or something else entirely?

I don't think that's the aspect I mind as much. I do prefer the swimsuit outfits better, don't get me wrong on that. But I think the reason I don't like the Zero Suit is that it seems to be trying too hard to be sexy, which doesn't fit Samus' character. Samus is plenty sexy in even her armor, though her personality and toughness. I like the swimsuits better for the reason that they're very brief fan service. The Zero Suit on the other hand takes up much more the game and the franchise now.
I'm not a Moral Kombat guy, so I wouldn't know, haha.

Still the tight Zero Suit is awesome. Well they manage to do Samus SEXY without fall down into the business cliche of be half naked in a bikini armor. They did a good job, the Zero Suit looks realistic for a lighter power suit armor and is understandable that she is represented in that way in most of the new story plots. So less room for the old combat armor.

Aniway i just love her suit. Did you watch Haloid? Look how the coolest sexyness of Samus is displayed at eleven.Β Β
