Sorry for my englishOk, a lot of tumblr anons asked me to translate this strip. I didn't planned to upload it.
Wtf happened in this strip: Ryazan was a first russian city, destroyed by Batu in 1237 ( Mongol invasion of Rus' ). Prince Fyodor was a son of Yuri, ruler of Ryazan - he was executed after he refused to give Batu his wife,princess Evpraksia. When the siege began, she killed herself.
Eh. P.S. Always happy to draw Subutai in his kick-ass mood.

Темой рязанского разорения очень богата в первую очередь советская литература,в
силу всем известных причин, а советское плавно перетекло в современное. К тому
же данный эпизод большому количеству трактовок не поддается,автор ПоРР вполне конкретен.
Это я все к тому,что никакого оригинального изложения здесь нет.

it's a sad fact of history that characters like batu where rather the norm when it came to empire builders. I was reading a book about Alexander the Great. it was like a laundry list of massacres and atrocities. In one provence he became so vexed by the resistence put up by the town ( they had taunted him for a good 18 months) that when his warriors were unleashed into the city they murdered even those who sought refuge in the gods' temple, and sent 10,000 of the cities men to be crucified, and what women and children were left were sold into slavery. I know that is Prechristian times, but brutallity is inherent in empire building. History is littered with sociopaths who led armies.

Actually that kind of behavior was absolutely normal for asians - from the mongolian point of view, from the Genghis' point of view, Batu didn't do anything wrong.

I admit I am not as familiar with this point of history. My main point is that invasion and conquest were never very pleasant. A lot of the commanders of these forces would be classified as psycopaths today. So it really doesn't surprise me much that this was routine ( if not this act then the pattern of brutality). Look at the Imperialastic mentality during the slave trade and there are horror stories galore(i.e. the narrative of John Stedman). That which makes history is seldom pretty.
