that's funny how you're always repeating that this character or this character is not a woman. Like with Balor and Sauron.

EDIT: DA ate part of my comment

@ZachtheBossman95   you are being extremely rude and arrogant. You have come onto a piece of art and proceeded to scold the artist because their personal art style doesn't match YOUR opinion of how a character no one has ever seen outside his full body armor should be shown. A character that is a traditional Tolkein elf. The sheer audacity is unbelievable. And to phrase it that you care how the character is "represented and depicted" is also very arrogant and presumptuous, not to mention narrow minded. You are not the creator of the character, the artist is not attempting to copy or make fanart of YOUR art style, and being androgynous isn't a slight on a person's character or masculinity. Not being hyper masculine or traditionally European masculine is not a bad thing. There are all kinds of people. It says a lot about how you view women that you believe someone being mistaken for one is somehow demeaning. You have a right not to like or agree with the artist's style, but you do not have the right to scold them for it. There's a back button for a reason, pal.

I think this really well done. I like how the pose comes across to me as Melkor pretty much dominating Mairon. He's leaning over menacingly and looks to be deeply focused while Mairon looks stunned, fascinated, helpless, and a little frightened. It does a really good job of getting across being seduced into atrocity by someone far older, wiser, and darker than you. I love Melkor's armor so much! The obsidian black color and the etched designs definitely remind me of the movie version of Sauron's armor and makes me wonder if he made it specifically to reflect Melkor's, like an instantly recognizable symbol of his devotion and loyalty. The symbolism of Mairon being very lightly armored compared to Melkor's hulking, seemingly impenetrable armor also adds to the interpretation of Melkor acting very calculatedly and not actually unguarding his heart for Mairon despite what he might say compared to Mairon's complete defenselessness in the face of Melkor's seductions. Very cool!

Did you intend to make Melkor look so calculating or is that just how I'm interpreting it and you headcanon Melkor actually did care (or came to care) about Mairon?

First off Sauron isn’t an elf. Second, chill out. Third, I don’t know why you’re assuming how I view women. I honestly feel like you’re attacking me now, though I wasn’t trying to attack anyone in the first place. I’m just stating my opinion. The piece is done very well, yes, but seems out of place in universe. That’s all. I hope I didn’t come across as rude because that wasn’t my intention.

i apologize but have you seen any of the lord of the rings movies and how elves are generally portrayed
most of the elves with fanart in silmarillion are portrayed just as feminine too

I have seen the lord of the rings trilogy millions of times so it is fair enough to say I am a huge fan of the franchise. I understand that this is just the artists style but it’s just annoying seeing people question a characters gender based on an image which some folks have in the comments here. Also Sauron is my favorite character so I guess I am a bit sensitive you could say about how he is represented or depicted

Sauron isn't a male or a female he is a Maia and Maiar don't have a biological sex. They only chose a body type depending on their will and how they perceive themselves. Sauron can turn into a werewolf and a vampire but turning into a more feminine body seems odd to you ? Now of course Maiar aren't exactly gender-fluid since they seem to identify to a certain gender and appear accordingly when taking a physical form. Sauron seem to identify as male as a gender and is always reffered to as a "he" but this is the beginning of times and I can imagine him playing around. I can also imagine him taking a male body with very feminine features. He is the "deceiver" (the Devil) so to speak and a shapeshifter. And the Devil used to take many forms in medieval litterature... including the form of a woman.

your frustration should, then, be directed at the people who are clueless enough to think sauron is a girl
instead of the artist who depicts elves as they normally are in the series, which is feminine in nature.

Fan vision- a giant, brooding Melkor with a troubled heart brining an insecure young Mairon to the right way. Fanfics abound.

Reality- Morgoth, a monstrous ogre like tyrant who ruined all of creation out of pettiness and his successor, Sauron who continued his master's actions- making things even worse.

Personally, as a long standing lover of Tolkien's works, I find this outlandish interpretation quite appealing. I found, after reading the Lord of the Rings, and later the Silmarillion, my largest complaint was the lack of fleshed out character on the parts of Sauron & Morgoth. I understand that they are designed to be a kind of ultimate evil, but for me personally, I found that to be too flat. I found my favorite parts of the Silmarillion were the parts with Sauron, because after reading the LOTR, I loved the sense of cunning he gave and wished it was better shown with the LOTR.

Now I adore the basic characters of the pair despite this- I love the mythical-style evil of Morgoth, and the looming presence of Sauron- but pieces like this did make me ponder on the pair and the relationship the pair would of shared. While the reality of a Dark Lords power couple is definitely not a thing (even though I love it), I adore the sense of loyalty between the pair; and it colored my thinking of the stories. I never would of thought Sauron would ever "mourn" the loss of his master, but the like the idea of it far then him simply "taking over the throne" without a second thought. I always found it interesting how Sauron seemed to always push the worship of Morgoth, and when the final battle comes, how he will return to Morgoth's side without a single moment of doubt.

Anyway, this is just my rambling opinion after getting no sleep. I giggled at the calling Morgoth a petty ogre, because I can just picture this looming, dark being just standing next to the Lamps; just waiting to knock them over like some kind of cat, while starting Manwe dead in the eyes. He really was a petty edge-lord.

Yeah 77madman, I had that issue with the Silmarillion too. Tolkien took to much Bible inspiration and was too focused on making Melkor his version of Lucifer/the devil, and Mairon and the Balrogs his fallen angels... that he failed to create a compelling villain charater. Which is a darn shame and kind of odd, since he said that no one ever stars evil, not even Sauron. So this approach comes off as very lazy writing and uncaring worldbuilding...also odd, since he felt the need to explain everything, even when no asked, cared, or wanted to hear(i.e. explaining how the Palantir works, 3pages of how dwarf naming works). I have had to resort to other peoples interpretation of Sauron and Morgoth to find ANY hint of [proper]characterization or motivation.

If you wanna know more about Sauron/Melkor relationship read "The Ring of Morgoth" (HoME 10) : it has an entire chapter comparing Morgoth's and Sauron's visions of the world and world domination. They aren't exactly given feelings but it helps flesh them out. Morgoth is definitely the more vain and "teenagy" of the both while Sauron is colder and more calculating but also less ambitious.

It's not necessarly THE Ring. It could be a ring. Sauron might have played with the idea quite a bit before he started teaching his art to the Elves. Also it's supposed to be symbolic. The Iron Crown and the Ring aren't meant to be there but to help identify the characters.

It's from the Silmarillion. It's very hard to explain. If you've read Lord of the Rings, you should know the author - J. R. R. Tolkien. So, this man has written the history of the whole world, described in Lord of the Rings. Silmarillion. This characters are from these book.
