I put my figure of the hydra from Hercules in there.

(It's a girl.)

(WHAT THE HECKIE HOW HAVE I NOT SEEN THIS)
(THESE WERE SOME OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS WHEN I WAS LITTLE)
(On a side note...I'd like to try this one, if you don't mind! ^w^ My character is named Lynn, and she just turned 14 - she got both the plastic figure and the cupboard as gifts. She's on the chubby side, with light, golden brown eyes, tanned skin, and dark brown, almost black hair. She's also fairly tall, just a sliver away from 5'10".)

Lynn frowned, watching the cupboard indecisively. What if there was a mouse in there, or something? Wait, that was ridiculous, she'd just opened it...all that was inside was the toy.Β
Well.Β
Just in case it really was a mouse, somehow, and because she was the superstitious type, she grabbed a plastic clothes-hanger, to defend herself from whatever mystical creature or pest might be inside. Slowly, she turned the key - which she'd left in the door - and yanked it open, holding the hanger at the ready. "Hah!"

((I KNOW, RIGHT?! THEY'RE AWESOME BOOKS! OUR COPY OF THE FIRST ONE HAS BEEN LOVED TO DEATH!))
((Also... why do insist on using the phrase 'if you don't mind' or something similar? I love it when you comment! You're one of my favorite people to RP with!))

"Gah!" Jerking away and staring up at her in horror was the tiny knight Lynn had locked inside just moments earlier. Only now, he was very clearly alive, and not plastic. He wasn't wearing much armor, and as he scrambled back, he tripped over something and fell down, still with a terrified look on his face. "S-stay away!"

(SO HAS OURS THIS IS GREAT OH MY GOSH)
(It's just a habit of mine, haha, dunno why but I also worry that I'm being rude or something. And WOO THANKS)
(Erm...s'it okay if I get a little more description of the knight? I always like to know what they look like, so I can visualize it better.)

Lynn reeled back, eyes wide. "I...uh..." She tried to say something, but when her stunned mind couldn't come up with the words, she let the sentence trail off. Crouching in front of the cupboard, she leaned forward a bit, eyes locked on the knight. What...why was he alive?!

((There was even a time when I had read it so many times so often that I probably could have quoted most of the book if anyone cared to listen...))
((Don't worry about it. You're always welcome.))
((Alright. Sorry I keep forgetting that part. He's got short, messy blonde hair, a bit of stubble, and green eyes. He's an English medieval knight, so he has fair skin, and probably an accent. He's wearing a green tunic with a gold rampant dragon on it, and there's the same emblem on his shield, which he's dropped by now.))

The knight pushed back again, but then he hit the back wall and couldn't retreat any further. "S-stay back!" he said again, his voice cracking. Fumbling for his sword, he tried to draw it, but failed. "L-leave me alone!"

(Thanks, and it's fine! ^^)

Lynn almost found the situation funny, or at least she would have if she wasn't still bewildered. As it was, she muttered a hoarse, "Um...you...you alright?"
It was a dream, she was sure at this point that it was a dream...but it felt so real! She could see every detail of his face, his armor, the way the metal shone in the dull glow of her lamp.Β
Hesitantly, eyes still focused intensely on the knight, she reached up, fingers coming within an inch of him only to pause.Β

He gulped, leaning away again, his eyes fixed on the tip of her closest finger. "P-please... don't hurt me..." he said, sounding panicked.

Lynn couldn't help it - she'd tried to control her curiosity, seeing how scared he was, but the urge to find out if he was real or not was overwhelming. Moving her hand forward, she brushed her fingertip against his forehead.
A sharp inhalation followed. That was skin. Not plastic, like it had been formerly, but real, warm skin. She wasn't dreaming, she couldn't be, this was...this was really happening.Β

The knight looked just as stunned. That touch had proven to him that this was real, as well. For him, however, it was a far less pleasant realization. "W-why... how am I here?" he asked in a shaky voice.

Lynn shook her head, feeling awkward for the first time; now that she knew she wasn't dreaming, she was realizing that there was a person in her room, seeing her in her pajamas.Β
Β Oh, come on, that's not what to think about right now. She chided herself, withdrawing her hand and giving him a small shake of her head as she tried to get her wits about her. "You don't...you don't know? You weren't alive before, I thought...I dunno, I thought you did something to make this happen."

Lynn almost laughed, huffing quietly. "Should've figured, a knight from England. We're in America. Or my bedroom. I'm not entirely sure which place you're asking about." She answered in short additions, face flushing a little at the awkwardness of the reply. She wasn't good at talking to regular people, let alone grown knights who appeared from plastic figurines in the cupboard.

The knight looked thoughtful, nodding a little. "America?" he repeated. "Where's that? You seem to know where England is..."

Shadowdancer172 In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-07-26 20:34:13 +0000 UTC]

Lynn didn't know why she was surprised, considering how strange all this was to begin with. "Erm...America, we were English people that colonized on a different continent. We, uh, we rebelled and broke free of the English, and formed a separate nation from them." She explained absently, still focused on studying the little knight. It was odd, how fluidly he moved and how...how alive he was, even while reminding her of the plastic figurine he'd once been.

The knight gave her an incredulous look. "There seem to be a few problems with your tale," he said. "For one, there are no giant citizens of England. For another, I've never heard of this America before, and I've been all over!"

Shadowdancer172 In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-07-27 19:13:10 +0000 UTC]

Lynn shook her head, eager to explain. After the initial shock, this really was pretty cool... "No, no! See, right now, you're just small. Everybody on the planet, including the English, is my size. And I promise you, America exists. We've been a country since...erm..." She thought back to her history lessons, which she hadn't paid the slightest bit of attention to. "1776, I'm pretty sure."

Lynn shifted, looking a little uncomfortable at the realization of how much larger she was than him. She was used to being larger than everyone, despite the fact that girls were supposed to be tiny and petite, so years worth of bullying had her shrinking back, kneeling on the floor to be mostly out of view from him. "Um...yes, I think, because knights haven't been around for...a really, really long time." She replied quietly.Β

Lynn pulled her head back a little, surprise flashing across her face. "Y-Yes, I'm fine!" She blurted out, unknowingly a little louder than she'd meant to. Less than two seconds later she realized her mistake, wincing and hoping she hadn't hurt his ears. "Uh...sorry."
Her mom was working a night shift, so the house was empty, at least; the last thing she needed was someone else hearing her and finding him.Β

Lynn's cheeks were flushed red, wishing she hadn't made a big deal of anything. Cursing her teenage hormones - surely she wouldn't be this embarrassed if not for them - she shook her head. "N-No, you didn't do anything..." She replied, tugging at the baggy T-shirt she was wearing. "Oh...um, and sorry for scaring you earlier. I didn't think you were real, or I wouldn't have touched you." She apologized, glancing at the knight and wondering how odd this must be for him, if it was strange for her.

It was strange to be called 'Miss', just because most of the time she was simple called by her first or last name. Not strange in a bad way, though, so she didn't comment on it. "My name's Lynn, and thank you, Richard." She murmured. "For not being upset, I mean. " She added, giving him a small grin. "I would have been pretty mad, I think."Β

(Ooh, I just realized something...in the third book, they were able to do the reverse, right? Go into the past as opposed to the future? Maybe, at some point, we could try that... ^^)

(I'm not sure, but I believe it was the end of the second one and then most of the third one...)

Lynn nodded, relieved that the knight wasn't more upset...before asking a question she'd been wondering ever since he called this 'the future'. "So...what year were you in before this? Or just general time? I know you're from England, but there haven't been knights in...I don't even know how long."

Richard frowned a little, looking down in concentration. "Well, now, let's see... it was the year 1129 last time I saw it posted anywhere, and that was..." he held up a hand, counting on the fingers. "Four? Four years ago? I think?"

Lynn's eyes grew round. "1129...it's 2014, now." She breathed, staring at him in awe. "That was almost 900 years ago." This...this was fantastically impossible, and yet...she knew it wasn't a dream.

Lynn hesitated, then murmured, "It's changed...quite a bit." She paused, feeling a little overwhelmed at the realization, and abruptly decided to change the subject. "Anyway! Do you want to come off of there? It seems a little uncomfortable, to just be sitting on a shelf, and I can probably find something better."Β
Not to mention, she was itching to hold him, although she'd never say that...it was the same urge one had to hold a kitten or a puppy, albeit with a little more curiosity involved. It was fairly clear in the expression she had, however, that she was eager to examine him more closely - not every day you saw a miniature human, after all.Β

"Erm..." Richard hesitated, uncertainty clear in his face. "I... I think I'll stay here, if you don't mind..." He could tell she wanted to hold him, and though he knew he'd react about the same to finding someone no larger than his finger in his bedchamber, he also knew that he did notΒ want to be held. He already felt powerless, and that would surely make it worse. Not to mention he had no way of knowing what she would do with him once he was in her hands... Shaking his head, Richard said as firmly as he could, "No, thank you," and hoped she wouldn't pick him up anyway. It was within her power to do so, he knew.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Shadowdancer172 In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-08-14 04:21:51 +0000 UTC]

Lynn was a little disappointed, but she didn't press further, nodding. "Alright. So...if you were alive before this, what were you doing when you came here?" She asked, deciding to at least learn more about him...even if she was still yearning to pick up the little knight. After all, I wouldn't hurt him, I'd just...hold him, for a little bit, and I'd put him back down in no time...just to see...it'd be alright, right? She began debating with herself, an odd look in her eyes as she waited for him to respond.

(Hm...do you remember the scene in the first part of the book, whenever Omri picks up Little Bear for the first time? Would a situation like that be okay? Albeit a little gentler than he was, because she's got a tad more common sense in her.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

((I do remember that scene, and I personally have no issue with him getting handled, even quite a bit. Richard, on the other hand... wouldn't appreciate it at all.))

"Not much," Richard said with a shrug. "Just getting ready for a friendly tourney between me and some friends. They might be missing me sometime soon, but they'll be fine... Not like they can't do it without me when I don't show up. Though I gotta wonder how they'll react to me being missing..." Suddenly, he shook himself. "Sorry, I'm talking like that's in the future. But given how far into the future I've somehow come, it isn't anymore."

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Shadowdancer172 In reply to Phoenix-FireMage [2014-08-14 04:41:34 +0000 UTC]

(I'm sure he wouldn't...ah, the life of a writer. I imagine there's karma somewhere for putting characters through uncomfortable situations, you think?)
(By the way, did you know that because of brain development still being underway, teenagers are less likely to make rational decisions? And less likely to predict the negative results of acting on impulse, therefore causing them to make choices adults would consider foolish or counterproductive.)

Lynn gave a slow nod, having made up her mind. It wouldn't hurt him to be picked up, after all, and she only wanted to get a closer look...anyone in her place would do the same thing, she justified.Β
With a quick motion of her hand, she curled her fingers around the knight's waist, pinning his sword to his side so he couldn't draw it, and lifted him from the cupboard edge. His legs and torso were mostly free, which might have felt a little bit like dangling, she wasn't sure - she was too busy examining him more closely, bringing him nearer to golden brown eyes the size of his head. "Um...sorry," She murmured, looking him over. "I just...I'll put you down in a second."Β

((There might be... it makes sense...))
((Yeah, learned that in health... and the moment I read that I knew what you were planning...))

"H-hey!" Richard exclaimed, starting to squirm. He was, frankly, quite terrified, and it probably showed. However, after he looked down and realized just how high up he was, the small knight stopped his struggles. He didn't want to be dropped, after all.

( Foreshadowing.)

Lynn, while being ruder than she realized, was still quite gentle with her hands, bringing another up under him when he struggled, to be sure he wouldn't fall. Now that he was resting in her palm, she left her other hand simply cupped beside him, although she held his sword between thumb and forefinger so he couldn't get to it.Β
She could feel his pulse where her pinky finger touched his left side, racing from the sudden fear she'd caused in him. And suddenly, while she was still curious...she was also incredibly guilty, for scaring him like this and picking him up without permission.Β
Carefully, she lowered him back to the wooden surface, on the shelf just in front of the cupboard, and cleared her throat. "Uh...sorry. I...shouldn't have done that."Β

Gavin hesitated, hearing strange sounds from the cupboard from where he'd put his childhood toy, frowning. He'd JUST locked it...and there was nothing living inside with the toy, so what was making the noises?
