Mike only kept them for one more day before he felt too guilty to keep them prisoner any longer. However, he wasn't sure how to phrase what he wanted to tell them, and so he was silent as he picked up the cup they were trapped in.

Donnovan angrily demanded an explanation, his speech spiced with the swear words that Mike had quickly learned meant he was uncomfortable with his situation. It had happened enough times that Mike could tell by the amount of cussing coming from Donnovan's mouth just how scared he was: very. The tiny man was probably rather frightened by Mike's sudden movements and worried about what would happen to them next.

Rather than explain, however, Mike just knelt by a hole in the baseboard that he was fairly certain was an entryway to one of their pathways through the house. Slowly, he tipped the cup, sliding them out. Donnovan's profanities turned to a wordless yell, and Mike immediately adjusted the angle of the cup so they weren't being dumped out so quickly.

Soon enough, the two tiny men were standing on the floor, looking up at Mike with confusion. Mike nodded towards the hole. “Well, go on,” he said.

“You... you're letting us go?” Ted asked, sounding surprised. Mike nodded. A relieved look spread over both men's features. “You see, Don, he's not keeping us forever,” Ted said, elbowing the other man. “Thank you, Mike!”

“You're welcome,” Mike said, trying to hide that he was hurt they seemed so glad to go. Of course they would; he'd been keeping them against their will. But he had hoped that they hadn't found his company so repellant… Oh well. Donnovan had already slipped through the hole. Ted seemed like he was about to, but Mike blocked his path briefly with his hand. “Ted?”

The small man looked up at him, looking slightly nervous once more. “Yes?”

“Will… will you come back?” Mike asked. “Please? Just… as a friend, not as a captive?”

Ted thought his request over for a moment, and then he nodded. “All right,” he said. “But you have to promise to keep your hands to yourself.”

Mike nodded earnestly. “Yes, of course,” he said. “I promise.” And with that, he lifted his hand out of the way again, and Ted stepped through the hole. “See you later…” Of course, he had to wonder if Ted really would come back. He was sure that Donnovan wouldn’t. But who knew… he’d just have to wait and see.
