Description
Here's the best shot that I've managed to get of Saba's spread tail feathers. Pionus have a waxy dust over their feathers (to protect them from the rain) so they are not as brightly coloured as some other. However I still say she's beautiful!!I did a little photoshoping on the background to make it all black, it was just dark before.

i had a love bird that had incredible tal feather displays this is very nice
and great job in PS going black - i've done it on a few hummingbird images and know how difficult it can be

Funny how when you own a kind of bird, you can recognize its breed from any sort of shot taken. Looks just like the butt-feathers of my own little Pionus.
Nice shot!

Heehee. Yeah I think you could give me a single feather and I'd know if it came from a Pi.
Do you have any pics of your Pi? They are just the greatest birds ever!

Was she preening? I think it's funny to watch my parrot clean himself... He looks cool with his feathers all spread out and lifted up, if you know what I mean. It's like he's fluffy. Saba is cute... I bet you're thrilled to have her!

Indie, my pi, has fallen on his tail so many times (he's kinda clumsy) that he only has four feathers left on it. He's a funny little thing

When Saba first got her tail feathers she would 'wag' so hard against the bars of her cage that she would break them. So she only had two for a long time. Now that she's older and has molted she's taking better care of them.

Indie is only 8 months old so he's still figuring some things out....and that also means that it will be a while before he gets a 'full' tail again.

I've found that a lot of parrots don't take good care of their 'first tail'. Has he gone through his Sixith Month molt yet? Saba didn't go through her's until she was like 10 months.

Nope, he hasn't experienced the wonders of molting yet, but he shall soon enough.

Thanks! In the wild she would use these as 'Flash Colours' to hopefully scare off a predator. She must think that the vacum cleaner is a preadator (she does this pose when I run it). So far she's won every fight againt the evil machine....I always end up turning it off in the end....
