It's very simple to do in bryce, I once tried making something similiar, make spheres, line them up, adjust the texture, and the parameters, transparency, etc. and touch up in photoshop.
But it looks good, I like the light falling on the spheres and the symmetry of it is nice, but I can't see the reflection of the purble ball on the floor, the lighting must be messed up somehow.

Everything is better in color! lalala.
I wish I could learn Bryce just for pretty renders like that.
Advanced sense of perspective here, It works well for this piece.
