Description Kerensky Mech Studio presents:
INGRAM ING-1X BattleMech

Based on the popular humanoid shape commonly used for most 'mechs, the Ingram is a 65-ton killing machine designed for front-line combat duty. Heavy plexiarmor and rugged ferrotitaniumalloy structure mount lasers, machineguns and a nuclear plant capable of propelling this machine to nearly 80 kmh. Add-on weapons (such as the 14cm heavy laser gun shown here) complement the fighting power further.

This is my very first 3dsmax render using nothing else other than the stock max poly modelling tools and scanline renderer. Any comments/critique are welcome because i am trying to improve my skill. Thanks Feel free to use it as your wallpaper.

Wow!! For using just the stock tools in 3ds Max, that is really good.

sure thing, always glad to chat

It's not surprising though, Vixen, Wasp/Stinger, and Pheonix Hawk were among a few others that were basically copied from the old Robotech anime (along with Marauder and Rifleman)

I always found that the "copied" designs from macross/robotech were always the cooler designs too. Like rifleman, wolverine, griffin, marauder etc.

With the only exception being the locust, which i think is really ugly

Wolverine and Griffin? pic's possibly?

The Locust is a fairly basic concept though, it's an ostrich, big, fast legs and and ultimately inneffectual wings

After searching for a vixen pic, i realized ur absolutely right. It looks freakishly similar, which is amazing considering i havent seen the vixen (or heard of it) before. XD

I actually used the Stinger/Wasp type as a loose reference, though mostly i was just doing whatever seemed nice at the time. o_o
Anyway, thanks for the comments

Not too bad man. I like the overall style. One thing I would take into consideration when making a mech is the joints. You'll want to try and make them usable for posing. They can also add to the whole style of the mech. Not bad at all for your first one though. Keep it up!!

Thanks for the comments!
I don't know how to do joints. I think i heard from somewhere you have to bone or rig the thing, and use something called IK. I'm stumped.

Maybe you should really do a tutorial

Nah, I'm not talking about "rigging". I'm talking about building real joints in the model itself. They way you have this it would not be able to move correctly. It's stiff.. the legs should have joints at the knee and the arms at the elbow etc..

That's a good idea! i think i'll try to include that in my next render...
...now that i think of it, how did i miss that originally o.o
