Description
another attempt at a starfield.... i'm trying hard to make it look less photoshoppy and more traditional.....
damned brushing took me hours and hours.... about slightly over 20 layers..... so u can say its my biggest project yet....
its not very impressive initially so please full view for full effect!

Cool, I like the purple and blue colors blended together like that. Awesome... but it would be better if you added planets or something else.

The brightest areas are brilliant, and the cool hues are attractive. Contrast is good, and also natural and not overly strong. A very enjoyable piece, although it seems a bit crowded. Less but bigger stars might create the impact and mood you're trying for.

I think the main problem here is that it's too busy. I think before you get to the stage of lighting everything up, when you're filtering the noise (i'm assuming you use the greg martin method) be more harsh with erasing patches and put the contrast up and brightness down to be more selective. Because you've got the technique working well, you just need to focus it to get great results.
Also it looks a little render-clouds-ish. Don't ever use them (If you didn't in this, then maybe just vary the brushes you use a bit and don't cover the entire image like this)

[link] is a pretty good example of outer space. It's not quite the same thing, but it makes a great reference.
