Description I formatted a mostly blank (test) SD card with one file on it so I could test the Commodore DOS interface provided by the SD2IEC module. I wanted to learn to use Commodore DOS commands in a safe environment where I wouldn't run the risk of accidentally deleting, corrupting, or overwriting files on the SD2IEC filesystem, so I decided to use a separate SD card for this purpose. After looking up some DOS commands on Wikipedia, I tried them out on my C64. Here you can see an application of a basic LOAD command that loads the filesystem on the disk. After loading, I used LIST to see what was loaded. The first LOAD command loads the filesystem on Disk A while the second loads the filesystem on Disk B. In this case, A and B both map to the same partition on the same SD card.

The Commodore DOS interface is rather interesting because the 1541 floppy drive is technically a separate computer. Both the C64 and the 1541 have their own 8-bit MOS 6502 processors and run on separate operating systems - the C64 runs Commodore BASIC while the 1541 runs Commodore DOS. The two machines interact with each other and the BASIC interpreter processes DOS commands that you type and sends them to the floppy drive where they are processed by the DOS operating system, which is stored in a ROM chip on the 1541. In this case, I'm using an SD2IEC with an SD card, but the DOS interface is more or less the same as on the 1541, the main differences being that there's one drive instead of two and that it allows you to access a lot more storage space.
