I really love the creepy effect created by the old photo look, especially when applied to something spooky like headstones. IMO horror movies would be so much better if they were filmed in grainy sepia with eerie music and focused on ominous and foreboding situations; rather than all that blood and guts you see in modern splatter films, which really aren't even remotely scary. One of the scariest films I've ever seen was Nosferatu, which was filmed in this style, way back in 1922 when that was the only thing available. In terms of horror, it was a hundred times better than something like, say, Halloween.
